Wanted I watch advice / information

It’s horses for courses.

I’d like to own a couple of nice dress watches as well as my Apple Watch, at present I just swap watch straps on the Apple Watch from black to brown leather depending on my outfit.

I’d love a mechanical masterpiece on my wrist but would equally be happy with a cheap quartz Sekonda. I may buy an heirloom piece one day if I’m flush.

I was younger, fitter and not so concerned about my health. My wife has a degenerative brain disease, I am her main carer so I worry about my own health as if something happens to me she’ll be in trouble..🤔

For some they can lead to more stress with a unhealthy focus on numbers, I have a Omrom HRM that I use occasionally, I don't need to monitor my BP daily (who does...), and other than that I don't need a constant reminder of my heart rate, I know I have high BP so I watch what I eat, but it's horses for courses guess, I have seen Apple watches worn and they all look the same, they don't float my boat as a watch, and I don't need the functions they provide either. Have you considered a HRM?

Agree with you re over monitoring. It’s wise to keep an eye on your BP periodically, but fixating on health data can be counterproductive for many people due to the anxiety it causes. For others it’s reassuring. Like watches, one size doesn’t fit all.

I have a navi timer , a seamaster and an engineer in my draw that I’ve hardly worn since discovering the Apple Watch.
Don’t bother with conventional time pieces anymore
Thats the very reason to get shut of them.
No good in a drawer.

This is my Smart watch.

I daily a Fenix 7 Solar Sapphire watch - the other watches all sit in the safe. They only come out for special occasions now.
Couldn’t agree more Garmin Fennix is amazing. Had an Apple Watch but in my opinion these are another level. It’s my daily wear with the others in the safe

I love mine - looking to move to a Fenix 8 AMOLED. I am not an extreme athlete so the 20 odd day battery life is excessive for me.

I have a number of watches, including Tudor, omega, Tissot and Seiko. What do I wear every day? My Apple Ultra, absolutely love it.

I have had a Samsung Galaxy watch and it reached its end of life in an iconic way.
I received an email to say it will no longer be supported from October 2025, then I went to Thailand dived in the seas and the watch died, even though it was waterproof?

Anyway I was going to get another and was undecided between the Samsung Ultra 2 or the Garmin Fenix 8 which my son has.
in the meantime, I went back to wearing my Citizen Red Arrow watch I've had for years.

After a month I started to enjoy not charging the Samsung watch, I hadn't realised what a chore it had become.
The citizen is an eco-drive watch which charges itself off lightbulbs, sunlight etc I have never put a battery in it.

My son pointed out his Garmin goes 21 days without charging, but this got me thinking.

If I pay £900 for a smartwatch and are happy to replace it every 4 years when the manufacturer stops supporting it.
then its an expensive watch with no sell on value etc.
I may as well pay a bit more for a Rolex, Omega or Breitling and have it for life.

For now I will stick with my Citizen, it does what I need.

In your case, try a smart watch.
They are useful but as i say above you are starting a similar situation as your phone where you always need to upgrade.
Something to be aware of.

All electronic gadgets depreciate at an alarming rate. A mechanical device can always be repaired and are generally reliable. How many on here have traded one of their bikes for an electric motorbike that will be obsolete in a few years time?
I like my mechanical high end watches- they look good ( to me) , have value now and in the future, and whatever happens to them when I’m not here will not be my worry.
Having said that, I have got a second hand Garmin watch which I use when I cycle as it does measure various functions and links to my Garmin cycle computer. If I come off or have an accident, I’m not concerned if it gets damaged. The Garmin only needs charging once a week.
Horses for courses.
