Icon Variant Helmets

Looks smart.

Anyone tried one?

Yes - had one for two years until it finally fell apart.

Pro: comfy, very nice replaceable liner, huuuuge eye port, inexpensive replacement shields
con: poor construction quality, shield doesn't have a lock to hold it down and constantly flips up when doing 50 mph plus, very large outer shell

Replaced it with an Arai XD4.

It finally failed when the bottom plastic seal distorted in the heat of southern Utah in the summer sand it distorted. It no longer fit on the bottom of the shell and I had to zip tie it in place to get home.

Wow, thanks for the info. :beerjug:

That said a lot, and certainly enough for me. High temperatures wouldn't be a problem but the quality and visor (shield) issues are off putting enough.

How's the Arai working out for you?

A friend of mine has two of them. One shows the fibreglass finish covered in deep, thick gloss and the other is the zebra print with red flashes. Both unusual and attention grabbing as they're quite rare to see around the UK and Europe for that matter.

I believe both came with a black visor included in the box. Agree on the comment above regarding the lining, it's nice but not luxurious in the way a Schuberth or Arai is.

Friend is very happy with the helmets from the value and build quality point of view. There is a slight comfort issue with forehead pressure and excessive wind noise (though he is 6"6).

I think they are excessively heavy, they seem to be about 2 - 2.5 times the weight of something like Shoei GT Air.

Personally I prefer the Tour X, but they're too expensive for the decent paintjobs.

The visor / shield not locking is a huge issue. It never seals so rain pours down the inside of the shield as well - more of an issue for you guys than the heat obviously.

And as Immigrant points out - they are heavy, due mostly to the shell being so damned big

Cost here is about $300 whereas the Arai XD runs $650 or so. I like the Arai better and don't expect it to fall apart over the next year.

Hmmmm. Thanks Earache I think I'll be sticking with my Arai Axcess for a while longer then.

There's a couple of Tossers recommending " Stealth " helmets, up by Consett.

You should take a look? Might even be a bit of discount for a Mod??

:D
