Hi again!

The idle speed on the Dak has gone from 1500rpm to 2000rpm...

Anyone got any ideas why, and what I might want to do about it?

I've had some problems with my speedo the last few days also, but I can't see this being a factor...or is it? :nenau

You're not checking the idle speed when the bars are as if you're turning sharp left are you? On my 650 you either have a snappy throttle response, or the idle speed doesn't go up on a full left turn of the bars.

have you tried resetting the bms, either unplug the connector or remove the fuse. Leave it disconnected for 15 minutes. There is no way to adjust the idle speed on the bikes. Its controlled by various sensors on the bike.

It could be related to the speedo problems, read this page for more info.

Seems both issues relate to the speedo sensor on the rear wheel, have you checked the condition of it yet?

Hi...

Yup...after a surprise mad weekend (my Sis n Bro inlaw turned up from Coventry)...I've finally found some time to mess with the Dak (with a first class hangover:o)

Checked sensor...it had some "iron filings" magnetised to it, and a little grime, but nothing serious. The plastic case, is not quite square at the end...although does not look worn...:eek

Went thru some of the other suggestions, resetting BMS etc...Now the idle varies...sometimes at 1750 when motor is fired up....sometimes closer to 2000...not noticed a pattern, yet.

Speedo is dead...I guess I'll have to give BMW £300000 for a new sensor, which could be the route of the problem...:(

...does anyone know of a reasonably priced service center/garage, other than a BMW garage...I'm off to Italy soon, on the bike, and now it has me wondering if it's going to be OK. I'd rather not have to spend hundreds of pounds of my trip money on it!!!!

It's not a serious problem for me...not having a speedo doesn't bother me...I'd like to know my mileage on my trip to Italy tho, and if speedo not working, then is the engine management effected?

I guess I'll be calling Southport Superbikes in the mornin!

:beerjug:

It could because the speedo sensor also controls the idle as an anti-stall measure.

Tony

Absolutely correct...

I got a speedo sensor and speedo now working, and idle is correct!

I was a bit miffed that a bike with only 16000 miles should require a £40 sensor replacement :spitfire till I removed the old one...

The cable was cut almost all the way through...both wires cut...just a bit of insulation holding it together right up forward and above the swingarm wher it's hidden...if it had sheered all the way...it would have been easy tell what was up!

The good news is, it's repairable, and so I have a spare :D
