Please can someone tell me what to do to make this site display correctly on IE7
It never stops downloading and is so slow.I cannot pick up/send PMs.
Really annoying me now.

If you find out what it is, let me know as sometimes it is so slow, paint dries quicker :(

But other nights, as fast as a fast thing on a fast day

Do other sites seem to be ok? They are for me, but ebay can play up similarily, but never quite as bad.

Go into UserCP and switch off all Avatars and Sig lines

Go into IE options and switch off all Image downloads.

If still slow - switch off "Phishing filter"

if still slow - install Firefox for comparison

have you tried updating IE7 ? just in case, it may also be worth checking

Tools- Internet options- Temp Internet files (setting) see if your giving IE enough memory to download the various images also it might be worth trying changing the check for newer version of stored pages setting

Change to Firefox :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

Yep. +1

And don't be scared - Firefox is dead easy to download, install and use... and just BETTER that IE. You don't need to be a techy to use Firefox.

PS: If you really want to cure your computer problems.... get a Mac. :type :D

In IE7 - it is Tools/Internet Options/Advanced (tab) - then Untick the "Show pictures" option under the multimedia section.

however, I have just tried that and due to the way the site is coded, most of the screen gets taken up with wide "placeholders".

It you are getting the same problems with Firefox, it may be a DNS resolution problem - are other Web sites affected in the same way?

You could try a "ipconfig /flushdns" from a command prompt

Maybe try changing your DNS settings, but we may be here some while trying to do that ;)

I must admit, the above is for IE6, and I assumed IE7 was similar, normally the 'Tool' word is on or near the top of IE you'll find various setting in here, if this is changed in IE7 someone else will need to point you in the right direction

It sounds like the phising filter is on, this wee gizmo checks links that are on a website your visiting to make sure there not going to send you anything nasty, but it can slow things down, if you look on the bottom right hand of IE and most explorers there's wee box's that show various symbols when for example you connect to a secure site a closed padlock is showing, in this area theres is a symbol for phising (i don't remember what it looks like) but if you hoover the mouse pointer over it it'll probably show a dialogue box telling what your hoovering over. once you have the right box you can either double click on it or right click on it and select phising filter off.
or start up IE and goto page that loads quickly and press F1 this will bring up the IE help page and look for phising filter via this.

Also don't discount your system may have picked up a virus if you haven't already do a virus scan.

HTH

Maybe a minor consideration but do you have a broadband connection or are you on dial up?

I had something similar, it was a bloody trojan..

Update and run your antivirus prog, A GOOD free one is AVG

I replaced Norton Crapafee 7 years ago after it caused the above prob even after updating it said bugger all wrong....

AVG free for last 7 years and NO problems whatsoever :thumb2

OH My God.Hell Fire, the problems I have had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I am back now the reason I have been off line so long is my computer has been in the shop.
I started having problems with this site initially it would not finish loading and would not change page, other sites seemed to be OK and i could do bits on UKGSer if I used Firefox.Gradually it spread to other sites and Firefox.I took it to the shop and they said at first it was a virus they scanned it etc,It was still the same they messed with it for another few days then said it needed a new power pack upped the memory. They fitted that and it was still the same they said it was windows, then IE all sorts Im not a computer whizz so i dont know what to say back to them.Any how i got BT to call round, had to sign for a monthly contract the guy came messed still no better then said I had a backup at the exchange!
I had to disconnect and not use the line, then reconnect and in a couple of days! Well here I am back!
I think I have been stiffed it has cost me nearly £140
But I am working now.

I have been had aint I?

If you remember back a few months, i had the same problems, still have the slow load problem ie. the cursor does not stop spinning and the page never fully loads. Works most of the time now, i try firefox and IE but both are the same,
still don't have a problem with other sites...so i let it be.:augie
