If I had an 1100gs, and wanted a .......

.... six speed box, could I just change the box, rear subframe, footrest brackets/linkages, clutch master cylinder.

A question that probably has been asked in the dim and distant past, but I'm not going to search.

Steptoe answered this question in the last two weeks but I'm dammed if I can find the answer, I think the answer might have been no, it can't be done but then again it might be "no"to a different question altogether.....I will carry on looking.

I think this might be it

You can't fit an 1150 engine to a 850/1100 gearbox. The bike in the advert has a complete 1150 engine, transmission and running gear.
You also can't fit an 1997 850/1100 rear subframe onto an 1150 gearbox and the clutches aren't swoppable.

Plus the 1997 850/1100 has a cable clutch, the 1150 has an hydraulic clutch. Plus the switch gear is completely different between the two models.

But the old 1100S gearbox is six-speed - would this work? Check ratios though to make sure you're getting a longer top gear...

Why on earth would you want a six speed box? One of the best things about the 1100 is it only having five gears.

The 1100S gearbox has no provision to mount the swinging arm onto - on the 1100S the swingarm mounts onto the rear frame section

Ahh, I figured there must be a reason why more haven't done it. I'd never noticed that before, just assumed it would be interchangeable... looking but not seeing, if you know what I mean.
