Just been out on the trails for a bit of cardio, at Mile 21 and almost home I hit an oak bollard sticking about 8” out of the ground, hidden in long grass at the edge of local parkland. One high speed pedal strike, one bent left crank arm, broken cycle computer mount and rear mudguard. One VERY painful bruised right hip and ribs.

This is my third heavy crash in the last three weekends of cycling. Luckily my elbows have now healed, I think sleeping will be uncomfortable for a few days until the hip and rib bruising eases. If I didn’t enjoy it so much I would give it up.

Hopefully a bit of heat and five minutes in the hydraulic press at work and I can save the crank arm from the scrap bin.

Fair play @Pukmeister try and rest well, it appears we arent bouncing as well with age.

Good little rabbit job on a Friday straightening your crank arm 🤞

Crank arm straightened at work and fitted/tested, the new ones I ordered from Praxis in Taiwan as a backup plan arrived in five days !

If only I straightened out so easily, it still hurts to cough and my hip and ribs are still sore.

Off work today, taking the caravan for a run up to Peterborough for a bank holiday visit to my daughters place.

That's the biggest problem with the trails right now, everything has grown furiously with the warm, wet weather. Clipped a tree stump that I couldn't see in the undergrowth (overgrowth?) and nearly went OTB myself last night. Hope you heal soon.

I've crashed twice recently, both times from hitting tree stumps hidden by the growth. It's super overgrown with ferns where I ride at Woburn.
No damaged cranks, but a bruised cut elbow after going OTB. The second one I ripped my 5/10 shoes, fortunately my toes are still intact.
They say things come in threes so I'm anticipating the next one.

Crashed last Saturday avoiding a dog. Caught the slippery muddy edge of the path and was flat out on the ground before I even realised I was in trouble.
Gloves saved the skin on my hands but both still sore and bruised. Knees skinned. Toes on my right foot have bruised. Not quite sure how that happened.
Was only doing 10-15 mph. Don't really want to think what damage if I had been making progress down a hill on tarmac; its rather easy to do between 30-40 mph.

That's the 3rd tumble from my ebike since I got it in mid 2020. Thinking some knee protectors would be worth having.

PS, missed the dog. It came up to lick my face as I lay on the ground but was told to fcuk off.

I got some knee protectors that have flexible D30 armour in them for my MTB. They are very comfortable and seem to stay in place during a ride - however i've not tested their protective properties yet!

I never ride trails without knee armour, but lately I wish I’d worn more protection on elbows, hips and chest.
