How to install Mapsource Products from the Hard Drive

We've all encountered the need to install City Select or Metroguide or another Mapsource Product from the Hard Drive due to the CD-Rom not properly reading the cd's or due to Admin Rights or Permissions. Beginning with version 5 of most Mapsource Products, this was nearly impossible to do, however, now there is a process available that will enable you to copy ANY Mapsource Product to the Hard Drive and Install it! Here's how:

1. Create a folder on the hard drive

2. Copy the contents of Discs 1 and 2 into this same folder, but DO NOT COPY the Setup CD. No need for this.

3. For products that use a Setup CD, Explore the Folder you created and locate the file called SETUP.EXE

4. Right Click on SETUP.EXE and Left Click on Create a ShortCut Here

5. For products that do not have a Setup CD, locate the DATA.EXE file and create a shortcut.

6. Next, Right Click on the shortcut you created and Left Click on Properties

7. Go to the end of the Target Line and place a space and then /zgarmin

8. See the example below. If there are quote marks, make sure to place the space /zgarmin outside the quote marks.

9. Click APPLY then OK

10. Double Left Click on the ShortCut to run the new Setup to install your product from the Hard Drive.

What example below

Why not just put the CD in the drive then "explore" in "my computer", then "select all", then "copy". Create a "MAPSOURCE" folder on the desk top and "paste" into it.

Click on "setup.exe" from there.
