I would like to use a GPS on my trail bike. I currently use the IGN 1:25000 serie bleu maps which are pretty good although can be a bit out of date.

IGN now provide these maps on CD rom - if fact several maps on one CD for 38€ which I think is pretty good. The problem is they run on a PC to allow you to enter waypoints and so on, but can only be uploaded onto a PDA.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of PDAs - for example, are there any which are waterproof and robust enough to be fitted to a trail bike?

Thanks in advance for any useful information and suggestions

this is my pda in otterbox.

the pics show how i originally had it, but now i have it mounted to the left hand side of the crossbar and a hein gericke tuareg handlebar bag that holds the powercables and bluetooth gpsr, i have also modified the bottom of the otterbox so i can get my power and audio cables in, so although its not fully waterproof anymore its still ok in the rain.

you might want to check out www.oziexplorer.com you can scan maps and use them in your pda with this software.
