After some scrotes decided to try and nick my 1150 from outside my mates in Bradford last night I am now in need of a replacement ignition barrel. Anyone got a spare one at all.....?

Looks like they've ragged the steering lock as thats broke but can't see any damage to the ignition barrel but althought the key will go in, it just wont turn I'm amazed there's no other damage as they tried to get away down a steep hill and dropped it then ran off.

I'm assuming I'll need to drill out some shear bolts (is that correct?). My question is.....does the ignition barrel come separate from the ignition switch. Will I need a new key? Can it be jury rigged so I can use it for this week until I get replacement?

I think my mate will be able to help drill the barrel shear bolts out. Anyone able to suggest the best way forward temporarily until I get a new/replacement one?

Thank

Its fairly easy on the 1200.
Take off the top yoke, drill out the sear bolts and remove the switch.
You can probably use your barrel in the new lock body. Its also easy enough to re program a new lock to your key. Its the same as reprogramming a luggage lock only there is a long pin to remove that retain the lock plates.
This is all from memory and refers to the 1200. Someone else will be along later with better info.

Depends how damaged the key barrel is.
Easy enough to remove and check .
In the front of the ignition holder/steering lock, next to the fluted part theres a very small hole. Insert the keys, turn the ignition on, insert a small pick/large pin into the hole, pull on the key and and the whole lock set will pull out .

Don't faff around drilling the security screws out - If the steering lock unit needs replacing, with a 5 or 6 mm bit, drill into the security screws to a depth of 2 or 3 mm's then hit a suitably sized torq bit into the drill hole and unscrew using a ratchet.

Thanks:thumb

Thanks again......only problem is...the key won't turn so not able to switch ignition on:blast

If you remember the thread about cutting the cable ties due to the ignition wire failing, then you can remove the switch block from the bottom of the ign switch.

Looking from the front of the bike, on the LHS of the barrel will be a spot of red paint. there is a small screw behind it. IFYKWIM

But this doesn't help at all with removing the key part of the lock.

Then the key tumbler is damaged, or the tumbler body. You may have to resort to force to remove the tumbler unit.
Be careful when you pull it out that you don't lose the small grub pin and spring at the bottom of the tumbler unit.

Ah but at least he could then ride home to the luxury of his own garage or workshop

Not if the steering lock is on. :D And if it has been damaged there's a chance it could come on while riding..

Back on the road

Thanks for the responses. Managed to get the switch from the barrel so now able to ride again. Will have to replace the barrel though and the steering lock as it was well bent/broken. The lock/tumbler seems ok so hopefully usable again.
