Hi i have an 06 1200GS that's done just under 17000 miles.
Just recently it has started playing up, I stick the key in and turn it on, nothing happens. If I turn it off and back on it generally kicks into life after the 3rd go.
Apart from that it's just fine.

Any suggestions chaps?

Sorted mine with copious amounts of WD40 but switch cleaner may be a better idea as it took a few goes with the WD40. Good luck.

May be a sign of a failing ring antenna - the thing that recognises the chip in the ignition key.

Use spare key, I had same problem! :beerjug:

A real problem with locks is people squirting them with WD40. All that does is wash away the original lubrication - WD40 isn't a lubricant. The barrel wafers get dry and stick in their channels causing the problems you're seeing.

Try using a drop of sewing machine oil on the key and insert it into the lock. Repeat that a few times until it goes in and out without any struggle then your wafers will be nice and slippy!

it sounds like the micro switchs are sticking, best to strip down the outer case to get cleaner in there. oh i mean the piece on the back of the ignition .
