Switched on the ignition to check my GPS, then switched off while I adjusted the gear selector position. 10 minutes later and the key barrel seems to have jammed - I can't turn it on or turn it to the steering lock position!!
Any ideas how to fix, or is it a case of calling the dealer?

WD 40

Get plenty of WD40 in there and let it sit for an hour, should get into the stuck bits.

Or if you are in a cold area, hairdryer.

WD40 should do it though

Ignition barrel

My Ign. barrel was jambing regularly before the 6k service @ BVM Stroud. they stripped it out and cleaned all the tumblers (?) it works ok now it was apparently both corroded and dirty so I recon the little flap doesnt work too well.
One the subject of 6k. service the update was installed at the same time MAGIC much better , more go and smoother.
Bad news ( or good maybe ) is that they are going to change my rattly gearbox so maybe it wont sound like a Duckfarty afterwards. Mike.

Do NOT use WD-40 in a lock. Use a graphite lock lubricant. WD will end up making the lock worse in the long run. Mention WD-40 to a locksmith and watch him wince...

Called BMW recovery - technician could not free it, so bike on its way to dealer for new ignition barrel. Hopefully parts readily available and not too long to fix.
