Those that have the new iMac, which version do you recommend and does anybody know if you can hook an xbox 360 upto it?

21.5" iMac, your reveiws.

Been doing some home work ,seems there are some issues with the 27" ones, so anybody have the 21.5" one, how do you like it and how easy is it to transfer my pc stuff over, this will be my first Mac. Your experiences much appreciated.

Cheers
Paul

i have just swapped to an iMac from a acer laptop - found it very easy to swap all my files over (just use an external harddrive to copy it over) - but i dont think i can plug my 360 or my PS3.

Been doing some home work ,seems there are some issues with the 27" ones,

I have had a 27" iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) for about 3 months now. Came with 4Gb ram and added another 4Gb from Crucial. Its on 24/7 and had no problems with it at all. Highly recommended.

Love the magic mouse, its great once you get used to it. Great for navigation on such a large screen.

Dont have an Xbox so no help to you there. I reckon if there was a way of hooking them up you would soon find out on Google

Gone and done it.

Well I've done it, went to John Lewis this afternoon and got a 21.5. Lovely piece of kit, just need to get started in transferring all my pc stuff over. :JB

Moved over to Mac with the MacBook pro in the summer after being a dyed in the wool windows user since version 2.0. I must say I would not go back. The changeover proved to be a remarkably painless experience. The Mac is so much faster, slicker and easier to use. The hardware and engineering are second to none, with a real quality feel. The experience of using OS X is far superior to Vista although I must confess I haven't installed Windows 7. Probably the most noticeable thing is that the Mac just works without the fuss. Standard software is excellent with itunes, and iphoto being very popular with everyone. iphoto is especially impressive for viewing, sorting and editing the family photos. I have also added MS Office, because I use it at work and wanted the compatibility. I would also recommend VMware Fusion just in case you want to run windows. So simple to use. Just connect your old PC to your wireless network and run the Fusion PC agent. Connect up the Mac to the network, fire up Fusion and the software will detect the pc & create a virtual copy on the mac for you. Disconnect the PC and flog it on ebay. Whenever you want to use a programme or read data that was on the old pc, just fire up Fusion and it is as though you are sat at the old pc. I still use it for garmin mapsource and my sat nav. Connects perfectly via usb.

The MacBook proved so popular with the rest of the family that I was always at the back of the queue and couldn't get my hands on it. In the end I bought the imac 21.5 for the family just before christmas. 27 inch is fantastic, but just too expensive for me. The higher end Radeon 4850 is really a must to drive that many pixels. In the end I went for the 21.5" with Radeon 4670. Performance is superb and I have had no problems at all. If you are still at college, or if you have kids/ relatives still at school, don't forget to use the Apple education store. http://store.apple.com/uk-edu No point in paying full price.

I would also recommend time capsule for backup and online storage. So simple to use and can be read by PC and Mac alike.

Can't really help you much over the x-box as I don't have one. Generally Macs are not renown for gaming, although I have managed to convert Oblivion for the kids using cider rather than running via bootcamp. If you are new to OS X then the Apple site has some useful guides for windows users which are useful.

Aint nothing wrong with Mac's owned afew myself, but what specifically are you trying to do mate??

Share the network connection to play on Xbox Live?
Play the 360 through the huge Mac Screen?

or

Video what your doing on the 360 using a capture Card (and most definately a Mac Pro)

I think you need a DLNA server running on the Mac to allow the client to see the files.

I tinkered with this last year, when I got a samsung telly that could stream files via it, I think this is also true for PS3/xbox too.

See if there's a demo version of twonkymedia or medialink you could test out.

I too was a die hard windows fan until i had heaps of trouble with Vista so took the plunge and bought the 27 inch quad core, dont regret it at all and will never buy another windows machine again.
Everything so much easier with a mac, everything works with no fuss. I still spend ages fixing the rest of the families problems with their windows laptops and will eventually swap all over to macbooks.
I have installed Parallels desktop and XP to run some windows stuff like Mapsource and other windows only software and they all work perfectly with no hitches.
IPhoto is great as is imovie, backing up is easy in fact everything is easy, the main thing is that everything works and does not need constantly updating.
