A lot of the embedded images that are posted in the forums are too large to display full size on my screen which results in a slider bar appearing at the bottom. This is a hassle as it means that to read the posts you have to keep moving the slider about:blast

Is there a setting that I can change to ensure that images re-size automatically to suit my screen?

are you using Windows or a Mac :nenau

oh damn, missed this one, sorry, not really an XP wiz but through a combination of altering your screen resolution of text size you might get away with it.

I think there was something serious in the above posts as well, buy a bigger screen....

try the first bit first....:)

Hi Packer, sounds like you either have a fairly old monitor which has a low reslolution or you have not set a newer monitor to the correct resolution. If you are using windows xp try Rt clicking on your desktop then click properties then Settings and see what resolution is set. Then try changing the resolution to the next highest setting. Its amazing how many people don't set their resolution to its optimum, good luck:thumb

Thanks for the repsonses folks.

I'm using a notebook with a 14" (diagonal) screen. Screen resolution is set for 1024 x 768 and any other setting seems to make things worse. Display DPI is normal at 96.

The problem only arises when links to large format images are embedded in a forum thread. Is there a way to scale the images automatically, a kind of "fit to screen setting" as the screen text size etc is fine. IE 7.0.5730.11 has the text size setting at medium.

Quite often it's the person who posts the pic who should have resized them before posting Packer.

When posting reports etc I resize my pics to 1000x800 which should suit most screens (although maybe not smaller laptop screens). Many other folk resize to 800x600 which should suit everyone.

Simple answer, no.

with a res of 1024x768 you shouldn't be finding it happen too much though, and if it does, you can be pretty sure everyone else will be having the same problem (assuming that you have the browser window maximised and no toolbars etc taking up a load of real estate?)

Just to make sure it's working properly, can you give an example of a post where this is happening and we'll check it.

FWIW, when someone posts a pic that's too big, one of the mods usually jumps on it, changes the size and reposts it.....if we miss it, you'll often see the person who posted it getting a bit of a verbal slapping from everyone else :D

Thanks Fanum. Whilst it doesn't solve the issue at least I know it's not just my settings which are at fault. Bar the idle bar stewards that post oversized images or better still automatically generate a "fine" that increases their subs charge and donate it to charity:D
