We are looking at re-locating perminately to Spain this time next year & I am looking at taking my 1200GS with me.
How much of a headache :blast is it to import a motorcycle to Spain, has anyone on the site done this.
Are there any recommended web-sites that I could look at.
Any help would be gratefully recieved....:thumb

My bike is up for replating to Spanish plates now. Our local garage has a man who will push all the paperwork through with an all in cost of a couple of hundred euros.

Everywhere I looked on the Internet came up with widely differing information and "facts", so I am hoping the guy at the garage knows what he is doing. PB

PS Where are you moving to?

This is pretty much as it is , get a "gestor" or someone who specialises in importing bikes , it will be a hard job trying to do it yourself , for the ITV the lights will need adjusting or replacing , and the speedo will have to show KMS having lived in spain for 20 years each area will have different levels of paperwork required and when you get to "traffico" you will never have all the right ones. must comment it was a lot easier importing my GSA from Spain to France

A friend of mine was going to replate his UK car to Spanish but the cost was 2000 euros:eek:

I may move to Spain next year so shall also be interested in the costs etc. for bikes.

Hi Pondboy, we`re looking at the Moraria/Benetichell area at present. Hopefully I`ll find a local garage that could do the same as yourself once their.

Hi Orbit. I agree with you it appears to be a bit of a minefield to do it yourself, having read your link it seems a paper-work nightmare!!

If you have a C.O.C then it shouldnt be a big deal. I imported both my bikes from Italy to Germany and now to UK and its the usual original docs request and the C.O.C. Just make sure you speak the lingo :blast

I've done UK to France and it was a bit of a pain in the bottom and some bikes like grey imports or over 106 or thereabouts bhp are virtually impossible to re-register.
Other factors will be the age of the bike and an unusual bike may cause problems as well.
There's plenty of information for France on Anglo France website forums of which there are quite a few, so there must be similar Anglo Spain forums around.
Good luck.

Hi Dave , We have just moved to France after 20 years in Calpe ! You will need to go a long way to find new roads to ride after the initial trip to Guadalest, you have Left ( alicante ) Right (Valencia ) also check out the cost of insurance in Spain I was paying € 1300 for fully comp on my GSA

good luck

Really looking forward to exploring the roads around this area Martin once we get moved, it`d sure be better than being stuck in a hire car.
As to the cost of insurance...BL..DY HELL...bit dearer than the £180 I`m currently paying for fully comp!
Just out of curiosity where was your nearest BMW dealer to Calpe & how does the price of second hand bikes compare to the UK.

Cheers :beerjug:

Like anywhere ,there's good and bad insurance you really want one that ( may ) pay out if you have a problem

Dealers

" Fersan " Alicante , Bikes and cars " Dos Rodes" Valencia Bikes only. http://www.dosrodes.com/
don't expect "instant service" from either ,usually 6 week wait for appointment for a service

No Idea of second hand prices in the UK but Spanish prices seemed high to me. I see Dos rodes have an 05 gs 36.700kms for € 10000

Just had a reply from a " gestor" friend in Benissa
if its less than one years old and you are the first owner
its going to be a minimum of € 1500 to get it on spanish plates .
I can pm their details if you want .

Hi Orbit.
No, by the time we`re looking at going out their it will be over 2 years old, so hopefully it`ll be cheaper.
If you could forward me the details I would be interested to learn more.
If it`s going to cost to much I may look at selling & buying a spanish plated bike.
Many thanks.
