I like the BMW system cases - not being a 'E&C RTW Touratech' type - but it's always annoyed me that the N/S pannier is useless due to the pannier cut out for the exhaust. I've finally sorted this with a few mods.

1. Fit a Bryn Stubby and replace the inner pannier shell with a non-cutout shell from Motorworks .... however the lug on the shell is 3" inboard of the footpeg ... DOH

2. Get a local welder to modify the footpeg ... some filing needed on the upper forward lug to get it to fit the pannier rail ... I'll be hammeriting this in due course ...

3. The footpeg now fits the pannier shell lug beautifully ...

4. Here's her revised arse-end. All the space I need without the bolt -on filing cabinets that so many seem to opt for!!

From Motorworks:

System pannier 32 Litre L/H for R850/1100/1150 RS/RT/S | ACA17611 | EO £148.67 (inc VAT)

You can fit your existing barrel and badges to the above. Lock ACA07618 or ACA37270 and badges SBA00045 and SBA00046 or SBA00134 need to be ordered separately.
BMW part no:46542317611

Or can order 46542317619 full size pannier back in, at £68.76 inc vat

I went for the latter option, the welding mod cost £75, so a total of £143.76 plus £20 for the Stubby.

Cheers.:thumb2

Did you try and find a pannier second hand?

The bike is a keeper no doubt:cool:

No I didn't bother looking for a S/H pannier.

I've had the bike new from 2002, when I'm planted she's coming in with me:D

I did think of doing this with mine, would not have cost anything, as I have a r1100rt with system cases as well, and I have a welder and a stubby fitted, but bought Ardcases instead :blast

All because I did not want to cut the footrest :augie:D

The other solution... & no welding required :thumb2

Clever! Why didn't I think of that??!

Still, am very happy with my arrangement:clap

I take no credit, beyond remembering that I'd seen someone else's post from a few weeks ago. Took a couple of minutes to figure out where, though...:)

I like the BMW system cases - not being a 'E&C RTW Touratech' type -

bit unfair on E&C at least they went round the world, :) unlike most of the expedition to friggin Tesco arses that I see with filing cabinets on their bikes,

but good lateral thinking and a neat final solution, well done, nice to see someone actually working it out instead of just asking for a solution.

can we have a pic or two please..:augie

Not got the GS`s anymore mate, and got no pics of the Globals.

The Global lids fit straight onto the System panniers and give considerably more capacity.

Got mine 2nd hand off here, but Motorworks did stock them (think they`re pricey from new).

The bloke that owned my 1150 really went to town.
So I have a pair of standard boxes and the lids Tarka mentioned.
I'll see if I can work out how to post a photo. I may be some time..
B.
