Barry Barber (07810 713 710) came and collected both me and the 1100 bright and early this morning to sort out the 1100 .

Barry is a BMW factory trained technician working from his own workshop providing an excellent service with excellent rates, he apparently will even collect and return your bike to you etc :thumb2 :thumb2 .

Barry systematically went through the bikes engine setup and before very long found the culprit for the poor running...it was pretty to watch a skilled confident technician at work. The problem appears to be duff/sticking injector, corroded connectors to the injector may also have played a part. Anyway, Barry meticulously cleaned the contacts and worked a few 'tricks' to get the injector working again :D :cool. Going forward it may need a new/secondhand injector (Barry's recommendation) but for the moment its running like a storm-trooper after his throttle body setup and tweaks, so were going to see what its like.

Barry is a really friendly guy and was quite willing to show me what he was doing and talk me through some of the stuff for the future, I must confess though that should I keep this bike then Barry will be getting all the my servicing work from now on.

If your looking for somewhere to get your BMW worked on outside of a main dealer then IMO Barry's your man, again he is factory trained as well. His business card says he covers Repairs - servicing - MOT's, from what I see he has stocks of most consumables too for the servicing.

All I have left to say is that those that doubted my workmanship in the rebuild were wrong:P :P :P :P

For the cynics, I am not getting anything from Barry for this...he does not have to. I believe in promoting a good service as much as I do a bad one!Give Barry a go for your next service/repair/MOT, I doubt very much you will be disappointed!

I forgot to add that he is in the Cosham/Portsmouth area. I am not sure how far he will travel to collect but hey give him a bell!!

VROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM

OK It's running properly now,:thumb2
Doesn't it go well and sound great ???
BUT what caused the oil leak that made you :thedummy ???
C'mon own up:D was it something you did??

It is running well and probably up for sale shortly. With the exception of my tappet settings (on the correct stroke I might add :) ) being a little loose, my assembly of the engine was pretty much :thumb2 if I say so myself. I did nowt wrong!

My interpretation of oil was in fact un-burnt fuel. The faulty injector was not atomising the fuel correctly...it was just throwing gobs of fuel in. If you know engines then you know the fuel has to be atomised to burn correctly. What I thought was oil on the piston face was in fact petrol that did not burn.

Barry has done my 1150 for almost 3 years now,

At my last service, he told me that he'd go up to around 75 miles to pick up a bike

He usually only charges enough to cover the running costs of his pickup truck.

He takes very good care of your bike, too.

Oh, and if you turn up with some fresh doughnuts he wags his tail like an excited puppy.

He does my bike, excellent service and really helpful with those little things the mechanically disadvantaged can't/won't attempt.

Cheers
Mark
