I had a problem with my 2720 today, it was having a problem finding satellites and maintaining a hold on them.
When I phoned Garmin they asked me if I had installed anything, which I had, new waypoints and also I had updated my speed camera POI's.
To cut a long story short they said I had corrupted the unit and I had to do a master reset, which worked.
Is this trouble common?
Thanks :nenau

Never had a problem with mine. What does a Master Reset do? How do you do it?

There's a new trojan threat for SatNav story...

...doing the rounds.

Only Tom-Toms affected so far, I thought.

Depends on the unit.

Resets all the information back to it coming off the production line in Taiwan, so, no routes left, no waypoints, no customisation of the gps and it thinks it's in Taiwan. My SP3 locked up and wouldn't power up. The master reset kicked it back into life. :)

To master reset a 2720 you switch it off, hold buttons map and menu and switch the unit back on again. It is like hard booting a computer it clears everything and resets it to factory settings, basically it cleanses the unit.
I havn't checked properly but I think my POI's are still there though.

Out of curiosity, how bad was the problem? Did it just take a long time to get a satellite fix or did it get a fix then lose it again while stationery or what? I ask because my SP2720 has been getting a bit sluggish (say up to 2mins) finding satellites the last few times I've used it...

It found the satellites OK at first, then after about 20mins lost reception for about 10mins, after that, the reception came and went like a bad phone signal. It seems OK since the master reset.
