I have just received my new 2610 which my son bought from GPSW. The setup guide refers to a MapSource Setup CD and a City Navigator Disk 1 and 2?
However I only have one disc in the box City Navigator (v8) disc 1. ( which it states that it is DVD disc 1 of 1). Is this correct? Do I only need this one disc to set it up?:nenau

Reading other threads on the 2610 am I correct in thinking that once I register my GPS I will be sent the v9 update free?:nenau

I think like others more questions may be following.:augie As I'm as yet not GPS savie. :blast

Thanks in advance for all replies. ( of any kind  )

2610

Ed,

I started one of the recent threads on the 2610.

I also just received a 2610 from GPSW but received v7. It did have the CN set up CD and 3 mapsource CDs and I had to use all of them.

I have registered and requested the v9 update disks from Garmin. From the replies I received I believe you are eligible for the free upgrade.

Good luck

:thumb2

I received my As-New refurb 2610 from GPSW a some days ago and it contained CN7 on 3 CD's. I also had to use all of them. I'm VERY satisfied with the package. :)

After registrering and unlocking the CN7 on mygarmin I simply clicked for a CN9 update and it should be on its way for free soon.
My belief is that the same applies to your CN8 on DVD-disc. This should go for all pre-City Navigator 9 bought and registered after sep 1'st 2006 if I read the Garmin support site correct. 2610 uses the non-NT version of CN9, released feb 20th 2007, BTW.

Thanks for the quick reply. However I wonder how come you got v7 and I got v8? If bought at about the same time. Also if you need 4 discs for the v7 and I only one disc for the v8?
Hope someone can put me right over this?
I assume mine is not a re-furb unit as it is in a Garmin box not the plain white as I have read else where.
Could I ask if yours is a re-furb unit?

V7 comes on three CDs, I think you'll find your v8 is a DVD and has all you need on it.

I think you'll need to request the upgrade and yes it should be free. Set-up a my Garmin account here and register your product, once you have done this you can request an upgrade using the appropriate link from within your account. Although you might need to wait 24 hours after registering until you can do this as I don't think you're added to the list of those that qualify immediately (although that might have been a one off case)

1. City Navigator v7 came with one Setup Disc + 3 Mapsource Discs = 4 CD discs
Your DVD will hold all you need since a DVD-disc can hold several GB of data and therefore
contain the same or more than 4 CD-discs. Consider the DVD to be a bigger "digital fueltank". ;)

2. My guess is that my white-boxed refurb unit is older than yours. I'm rather pleased that this refurb appears spanking new, has all shiny contacts and all enclosed hardware and software appears new as well.

For my usage (the notorious auto recalc is user controlled) this is a bargain, as my 3 years old 2610 now has a broken USB-contact and is sent away for warranty repairs and is not eligible for a free CN9 upgrade. I've got 3 motorcycles, so once back the old unit will get a USD 75,- CN9 upgrade and be dedicated for the other operative bike (Honda ST1100).

The good news for you is that the licence that City Navigator is sold under allows you to register a 2nd unit owned by you and get a free unlock code for that. :D
