Iam planning to buy 1200GSA, juns wondering when you ride does ESA make any different in every option ( comfort, sport ) if not I jut tell my dealer to remove that, it safe money and its easy to maintain ?
I've got ESA. In my experience sport/normal/comfort modes do make a noticeable difference in handling and can be done on the move. It also makes adjusting the suspension for 2-up etc quick and easy. For me it was worth the money.
Having said that you're obviously limited to BMW's choice of settings so if you like to fine-tune settings it may not be for you.
Not had ESA on a GS, but done 24K on a K12GT. It works and you can tell the difference between the sport and comfort modes. Nearly all those miles were done 2-up and to be honest I hardly ever moved it off "Normal"
My main concern is longevity. The wire from the ESA unit to the front shock snapped on mine. The guys at Rainbow managed to solder the wire together and all is well. The cost of a new front shock is €2000 so would expect the rear to be similar.
It's like a lot of things on bikes these days ..... great if within warranty but does it increase or decrease the value of the bike to a second user?
I'm hopefully getting a new GSA before Christmas and I'll need to keep it for quite a while, and I'm seriously thinking of getting only ABS, computer and heated grips. All the rest of the gizmos I'm seeing as unnecessary or just things to worry about outside of warranty.
