This is a long story i'm afraid-
The first things to go wrong were the gear indicator and the EWS ring antennae. I was supprised to say the least, when they stopped working on the first day of a tour of Scotland . I guess that’s the price of progress, electrics that can’t be bodged.
Next up was the front alloy wheel getting a flat spot on the most ridiculously easy bit of off roading I’ve seen; the stone can’t have been more than four inches high. Needless to say that I’m very disappointed. I watched all of the LWR and they didn’t have a single problem with there wheels.
Then there was the battery discharging itself overnight, so I changed the battery for an Odyssey pc535 that everyone recommends. Unfortunately that was flat the next day. Perhaps I should have checked the cheap E-bay relay supplying power to all the toys I need, gps etc. Not sure why the Can Bus didn’t realise there was a problem, I mean it’s not much use if it lets the battery go flat is it?
Next was the panniers, they let in approx a table spoon of water during the Scottish monsoon that I rode through, soaking my only clean pair of y-fronts. I guess BMW’s accessories don't go through a realistic r+d period.
Later whilst checking the concrete floor in the garage for cracks I happened to notice that the front cover has some corrosion. Three winters of light use and a full can of ACF50, applied as per the tin, and I still have corrosion. Frankly disgraceful on a machine costing ten thousand pounds.
Then there’s the crashing on the moors, four crashes in the last month to be precise. Can’t understand it really, I mean Charlie can manage it, I guess it must be the wrong sort of off roading. Anyway as a result, the n/s mirror has scratches on it, I thought you were able to ride around the world on one of these.
The final straw is the realisation that my motocross boots have rubbed the paint from the lhs of the subframe. I can hardly contain my emotions.
Anyway what I wanted to know was, does anyone have an address for BMW? I need to write and congratulate them on making such a ridiculously good motorcycle.
