Hi all, I hope you can help please. I have a 1200gs 05 plate, running perfectly, just had service at BMW. Came back from service, parked up, week later, gone to bike to fit new Accelerator Module. Took side panels off, fitted module, sprayed round with silicon spray to help with winter, re-fitted panels, went to start, wouldnt start?
Nothing was happening, then realised neutral light wasnt on, it was in neutral so moved the gear selector up and it notched second and all way to top, and back to first but wil not stay on neutral.
If you hold foot against selector and move slightly bike will start, but release your foot and it says its in second and stops.
So then took everything back off, including module, problem remains!!!! Damn.
Could this be coincidence?
Where does the gear position sensor live? Could it be that?
Any help would be great, cheers, stevie.

my 08 starts in gear with clutch in,i assume yours will be the same,so i dont think the gear pos sensor is faulty(its positioned at the end of the gearbox under bike btw).i reckon you need to look at the sidestand switch, good luck

Update!!!

Thanks for that one, that was why she was stopping! On centre stand but side stand down!!
So she now runs but only starts when you rest your foot on the gear selector with slight pressure until the neutral light comes on. Why all off a sudden it cant find neutral??:nenau

The gear position indicator is a black plastic unit fitted on the rear of the gearbox just in front of the rear swingarm. They are prone to giving false readings if drenched, and being plastic I suspect the internal mechanism may wear over time.

Maybe ask your dealer about the price/need for a replacement position sensor ?

Running again!!

Thanks for the replies, found the problem! It was the sensor on back of box, the multi plug going into it showed no signs off corrosion but sprayed liberally with wd40 and wiggled about and the neutral light comes on and bike starts fine. So hopefully can fix it although trying to get the sensor off does look to be a right pig of a job! My tork sockets fit but then cant get the ratchet on because so tight to swing arm!!
Cheers all.:clap

Have tried a (6mm) i think flat ratchet spanner ( halfruards do a kit cheap-ish ) on the end of the torqs bit:augie
