I have an epson 760 ink jet printer that I hardly ever use and haven't for about 2 years. When I last used it it was working ok apart from a few streaky bits that nozzle cleaning wouldn't solve and the cartridge low warning lights were flashing. As it hasn't been used for such a long time and I need to rattle of a few bits and pieces I am expecting the nozzles to be solid.

My questions are, are the nozzles part of the cartridges so by replacing them the printer should work ok? As I will only be printing a small amount and probably not using it again for ages, would I be able to get by by using cheaper pattern cartridges rather than Epson originals?

The nozzles on most Epson printers are part of the printer and not part of the cartridge which is why most Epson replacement cartridges are cheaper. If like me you are not David Bailey or Lord Lichfield, Epson compatables are fine.
Top tip never place a printer near a radiator or in direct sunlight as the ink will dry out blocking the jets, also turn it and off a few times a week if you don't use it too often it purges and charges the printer heads with fresh ink.

To add to the previous excellent advice, you can buy cleaning cartridges on E-Bay that work quite well.... As for aftermarket cartridges, I have found that most clog up more frequently, requiring "head cleaning" which is a huge waste of ink every time....Catch 22 I'm afraid.....:nenau

Thanks for the replies chaps. I might just get another printer instead and put that one in the loft with the other 3.

epson printers are shite - unless used daily.

get a canon that has jets in the printer cartridge.

at the worst you'll need to buy a new cartridge - not a whole feckin printer !!

I have a Canon S700 up in my loft now with a blocked print head, not cost effective to replace, waiting for a cheapie on E-BAY...:rob
