Inner tubes...

Heavy duty tubes from wemoto.com have done me for a few years now. Anything more is over kill.
I think they're the cheapest available.

In my ignorance Ive often wondered about just how useful heavy duty tubes are?

I understand that for running very low pressures they may help prevent a puncture caused by pinching but, if an object can get through a tyre a thick tube is hardly going to stop it.

What am I missing ( sorry to go off topic).

I suppose it's just the extra mm or 2 in the HD tubes that could prevent a thorn puncture when out on the trails.

I always run with HD tubes but keep the thin std tubes to take out with me as spares 'cos they're easier to store/carry.

Ditto!

I upgraded to the HD tubes after getting 2 poxy thorn punctures in 2 weeks. Never had an issue since, and I also carry the std tubes as spares :thumb

err...this is getting a bit confusing.

Front weel is 1.6x21 and takes tyre 90/90/21
Rear wheel is 2.5 x 18 and takes tyre 140/80/18

Tubes are listed with some funny numbers that don't seem to correlate with the above. Blokey at Wemoto didn't really seem to know what he was talking about.

So are these the puppies I need?

Inner Tube Heavy Duty Reinforced MX 18 - 450/460 Straight Valve (http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/MS-TK45018R)

and

Inner Tube Heavy Duty Reinforced MX 21 - 275/300/325 Straight Valve (http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/MS-TK30021R)

Ta !

I am running these:

So far so good, - lost count of the number of punctures I had on the standard tubes.

I have used the conti heavy duty tubes for the last 12000km over some horrendous dirt roads and tracks with no punctures.

I would definately recommend them for remote region off road riding ... for around town and the like, you do have to bear in mind how much more useful they will be, balanced with the cost, and the weight

Thx for that. For context, this for off road use; the G650X is my off road hack.

Good point re rim locks. But I thought that rim locks are only needed if running v low pressures....and that the G650X stock rims are not strong enough for running v low pressures.

From the reading I've done, the only guys that know of that have had issues with their made-of-cheese rims are those running v low pressures / mousses.
