Hello all,

Just wanted to know if I can part install windows ME on my system and then transfer the hard drive to a friends system to finish the process?

Wise words are most welcome! Anything else, bugger off! ;)

Cheers.

So is your friends CD drive bust?

I've had some success before doing something like this. Get the harddrive, partition it into at least 2, format to DOS and then drag the entire ME installer CD to the second partition.

You can then install FreeDOS on the first partition, or put it on a floppy and boot from that (after you've installed this drive in your friends system).

http://www.freedos.org/

Using FreeDos you should be able to run the installers on the second partition (Windows installer should think it's running from a CD) and install over the first partition.

It's a bit of a PITA and it's ages since I've done something like this, but some thing similar worked for me when I tried it.

Me sucks..

"ME Sucks".. to put it mildly.. seriously do not waste your time or your friends. I would rather use 98, than ME.

The description above should work as well..

Hello all,

The reason for the pre-install was only to save time.
But one thing is right, ME is a pile of sheep shite. Sadly, I don't have windows 98SE to play with...DOH! I've got windows XP, but the system I'm upgrading can't handle it.
Looks like my friend will end up with Sheep shite after all!

Thanks for the info guys.

Bob

PS. if someone on here is fed up with there copy of windows 98 give me a PM ;)
