Installing starter motor.

My second starter is screeching when trying to start. I had replaced the starter clutch on the original starter which went the same way.
Can I swop out the starter motors without opening the primary casing?
It was last done by the dealer and now it is my turn.
Model 2010 96" FLHTCU.

No....Primary has to come off - or so I'm told.
