Hi guys just a quiry realy.

Has any one tried to insure a 650gs for a seventeen year old?

A mate of mine's lad is taking his test soon and then the three of us may be heading off to eastern europe for a couple of weeks.

The choice of bike for the lad is a toss up between a 350 traily or if the insurance is ok a 650gs as it carries luggage better and is more capable.

Try BMW Motorrad Insurnance. When I insured my bike last time they were insuring any BMW for a max of £220. As a new rider this helped me out quite a bit.

well i insured my dakar brand new when i was 20, and it cast me £550 third party nicked and torched, on a 33bhp restriction.

now i'm 21, with a derestricted licence, 3 yrs no claims and pay £280 fully comp

thats with bennetts

Yes you can..

you can take a motorcycle test at 17, pass it and you will have a restricted licence.

you can ride any bike on a restricted licence.. providing it is restricted to 33bhp or less.

you are restricted for 2 years, then you get a full licence..

I had mine restricted until my two years were up.

Try Carol Nash insurance, you get the european cover with them.

BMW wont insure anyone under 23!

Hi, thanks for the info guys. I had an incling the 650 was quite cheep to insure.

Val,
I think you will find silly numbers quoted for anything other than a 125cc, as Mikestatt advises a scheme subsidised by a manufacturer is probably the only way to go - BM may still do the 220 gbp offer.
My daughter passed her test 6 years ago and has only ridden offroad because of insurance costs. She is now just 25 and I have added her to my own policy (k1200Lt,11xxgs, 650Dakar) for ....... nothing, absolutely free of charge except for 15Gbp admin charge. Total premium for 3 bikes & 2 riders 209 gbp. There is hope - you just have to wait 8 years.
