My s1000rr and r80g/s are insured with BMW on a joint policy.

My R100g/s project bike "see project katmandu" - I mentioned the mods to the BMW underwriters (forks, frame upgrade and swing arm extension) and they won't insure it!

Those of you out there with specials: who do you insure with?

cheers

-Pete

To be honest, with that swinging arm extension, I wouldn't insure it (if that was my job of course ) Surely it would be somewhat easier to insure if at least some of the work was carried out by a qualified specialist or shop i.e, Moorespeed or HPN?

Just my tuppence. :thumb

ebike doesn't get the best praise from some on here but when insuring through their website they ask for any mods and you can tick the box for ( I think ) up to four mods. Worth going onto their site for an online quote :thumb2

Then again, some members off here 'forget' to mention some of their mods !!!:D

My modified GS come G/S is insured with Ebike as well, the any mods questions are pretty vague but I have declared my changes and the price was still good. But and it's a big but I would hate to have to claim from them as it is so difficult to speak to a real person as I discovered when my bike was stolen. luckily it was recovered with little damage, and I cancelled the claim.
When I did eventually get to speak to someone I was interrogated quite aggressively, I promised myself I would not renew with them after that but modified bikes are a problem with other companies so it's re-insured TPFT and I take more anti-theft measures and accept thats the way it is.
This is in no way a recommendation for Ebike.

I have just "grabbed" this from a thread on Pistonheads; it may well give you an insight to your predicament:

"Last year I was bowled over at how cheap and good the insurance was for my S1000RR. Fully comp, no silly rule about fitting crap Thatcham alarm, £100 excess, 5K miles, all extras on bike covered, no no claims bonus (due to being insured previously on Aviva Premier multibike policy) and a 28 day speeding ban 3 years ago -£230.. Good!

This year, as NIG have exited the Devitt / BMW scheme, Allianz have taken over and now they want £490, no negotiation.

Very annoyed, especially as Aviva still insisting I fit a rubbish aftermarket alarm (bike has a BMW alarm factory fitted already) if they add it to my Premier policy.

So, I am in the market for a new company to cover me.

Any recommendations? Are these MCE people any good? Bennetts?

Or should I bite the pillow and take the Allianz deal?"

Looks like we are all in for a shock :blast

I insure through Footman James, classic bike agreed value policy, for agreed value had to list all the mods with photos, (engine work, brake/suspension mods, frame changes), has to be garaged, and got unlimited milage on the policy, because of being a bmw owners club member, about £100 for fully comp. Waiting to see if it will go up this year.

I am insured through Carole Nash I have been a bit worried about cover for modifications as they seemed very casual about it so I faxed a list and got them to acknowledge it

i use ebike as Carole Nash could not get me a good cheap quot
and this year i will be going on to classic policy as i am now over 24years old

With Carole Nash at the moment and they struggled to gettheir head's around what I'd done to my bike.I'll defo look around in June whewn my renewal comes up.

I am with Fat Carol Nash
every time I re-insure I tell them the mods etc.
they always seem to have the same answer
"Thanks for informing us, I have noted that, no extra charge"
I dont think the operator give a toss, as long as they have the dosh, they dont seem bothered
Might be different when/if yer made a claim
I like the idea of faxing or emailing them the changes and waiting for the reply
I will do that next time

i like ebike as you just click the mods on there website. plus when i made a claim they were great and a good help

I had all manner of issues finding someone to cover the bitza and it's not anywhee near as extreme yours and some of the other bike out there. But finally I went with Adiran Flux... they cover her fully comp for a touch over 220 quid (thats with 8 years ncb though)... so they might be worth a call.

I have to say it really narked me having to pay so much.. my old 1150GS was worth at least twice as much (in monetary terms), was faster and was probably more likely to get nicked.. and cost less to insure!

airhead GS insurance hrumph  93 GS bog standard £180, 88 K100rt £100 :confused: and I also got quoted £80 for a 88 r100rt  so I would imagine you are going to have to get well lubed up and bend over for a special GS :eek:
