My curent insurer will not insure me in the Ukraine. Does anyone know a company who can cover me there?

Hi Pie Man,

I'm hoping to travel into the Ukraine myself this year...and I'm told that you can buy a Green card Insurance at the border.

It is almost impossible to try and obtain insurance in the UK for these countries. If your own insurance won't give you a GReen Card, another one won't be able to because you can't take out two insurance policies on one bike...which means moving your policy!

I travelled into the Balkans this year....and never had trouble getting insurance at any border...except Serbia...but if you struggle, just find an insurance agent in a town and thay can do you a policy for the country.

The Association of British Insurers www.abi.org.uk 020-7600 3333 will give you some names and numbers....but I found that I was going round in circles!

Although it seems risky, it is better, and easier, at the border.

Hope that helps,

Steve :o)

Thanks for the info I will sure check it out. From what I heard about the green card on the boarder, it is useless. Will check it out, the British Insurance something or other has put me in touch with some insurers who may help me out.

I know the Green Card at the border is only third party.....which doesn't have the theft element that is really the main concern in these sort of places...but why have you heard that they are useless?

If you have any joy I'd appreciate it if you could let me know....I'd rather go with fully com' insurance if I can.

Thanks,

Steve.

Hi, I'm off to Romania & Bulgaria this summer, and my existing Insurers, Bennetts, won't cover me for Bulgaria ; Romania yes, but not Bulgaria !

So, am in the process of gettong a quote from these people..

http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk

They advertise in the BMW Owners magazine, and seemed very helpful on the 'phone.
They cover all of Europe (EU), fully comp, and will include a Green Card as part of the deal.
Also ask for a BMW Club discount (if you're a member of course !!!)

So, I have no links with Lynbrook, and have not received a fixed quote yet, but was looking at around £200 on a 2003 1150 GS Adventure, fully comp, inc panniers & bits. It sounds promising, and hope this info has helped.

Yes it is a risk I know.

Let me know if you have any luck getting insurance. I think if your present insurer won't do it, it will mean you having to change the whole policy to the company who willl.

But if you have any joy I'd be interested to find out and maybe give it a try myself.

Cheers, Steve

I've travelled through Romania in the past, and through Bulgaria last year.......both could be covered on a Green Card through my current Norwich Union policy.

Oh....and I found the RAC breakdown cover was far better, and covered more remote Eastern Europe countries than the AA(which I swear by as a whole)

According to my brokers (Bennetts) Bulgaria is not included as part of the EU:blast ;
they still won't cover me for Bulgaria. Fat lot of use they are...time they got up to date. So, guess who won't be using Bennetts Insurance any more :spitfire:spitfire:spitfire.
