Probably been discussed many times but is there much of a viable alternative to Carole Nash in Ireland? Renewing policy for my GSA and they're saying over €360 although at least that's down on last year's outrageous price. No accidents, points, claims etc in the 8 years I've been with them.

Am I being unreasonable thinking that's a bit steep?

Axa. works best for me - i've instructor cover and a good price.
Liberty. might be o.k - they allegedly give good prices for a single Bike.
http://www.adelaidemotorbike.com/ ... based up North / covers the South - again, supposed to be good for a single Bike.
http://www.mceinsurance.com/ireland...MrZ5_ki5D-NkmFicN7IfY90F0s0K_CJy-gaAuMw8P8HAQ ... no idea if any good, but i'd be wary, based on what i've heard - you may get a good price but untested as to quality if you have a claim in.
http://www.magireland.org/2015/news-media/principal-insurance-now-open-for-business-in-ireland/ ... the newest. At least with Aly Dixon there - She does know what the business is about.

Good Luck.

Many thanks for that, you're a good man. Off to France on Monday and insurance falls due at the end of the week so bit of a rush on to sort it before I go.

We're with Adelaide (or is it Cornmarket now?). Very no-nonsense and provide European cover as part of their standard policy terms (though not necessarily a Green Card).

How's all on the Eastern Front with you guys?

Us? Roynie is in Uzbekistan, struggling with mobile and internet access, but otherwise being treated kindly by everyone he meets. I'm still with my 85 year old mum, enduring a nightly barrage of end-to-end tv soaps and counting the days until I can fly back to Moscow and collect my bike. :thumby:

Ooops, yeah, sorry about the 'you guys'. Speaking of which, how's the healing coming along? I feel your pain on the mum thing, mine's the same age and I try to go home to Kerry to her when I can. TV at an ear splitting volume and all the soaps known to mankind. As well as an obsession with Alibi tv channel because they have "good detective stories" ...

Ditto for my 95 year old mother, but her fixation is Deal or No Deal with Noel Edmonds.

a mate of mine broke down at 1pm on friday about 15miles from Holyhead, after constant calls to Axa breakdown cover they finally picked him and the bike after 9pm and brought him back to the ferry,he then had to wait 2 hours at Dublin port in the morning to get the bike brought to Dublin Harley,I changed to Principal last month, their breakdown is with Axa,Carol Nash seems to have better breakdown cover......

Off to France on Monday

:D
Well for ya !
Where ya going ? Will there be a blog or a Ride Report ?

Oh yeah, insurance :augie
I've been with CN for years.
Both them & Adelaide are around the €360 mark but that's two bikes (even they realise ya can't ride 2 yokes at once !)
I've availed of Auntie Carols recovery before & had no complaints. But it was from home...

Used Carole Nash in Bulgaria. Breakdown truck was arranged by them who brought bike from Plovdiv to Sofiya to have it repaired (final drive bearings) and the hire of a car for 4 days without any problems apart from the usual delays.

Thanks Jockser & Padraig, that's very good to know and makes me feel a little better. Maybe I was a little swift in my judgement on CN.

First week is zigzagging from Cherbourg down to Bidart, just south of Biarritz. Meet the family there and spend 2 weeks knocking around with them. Then a week to make my way home after they leave. While there I'll do a few day/ overnights into Spain as well. Any suggestions are welcome for great roads or must sees as I'm on me tod and flexible. All I have in my head really is Mont St. Michel, Finisterre, Carnac, La Rochelle, Oradour sur Glane and Arcachon. Camping and cooking all the way.

Wapping has loads of great roads in his '80 Virees a Moto' posts here - http://www.ukgser.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/233-France-(other-than-Alps-Pyrenees)

Other things to add to your list, depending on what you're into, might be Normandy beaches, Le Mans museum, Millau bridge, Route Napoleon & Route de Grand Alpes, Gorges du Tarn, Gorges du Verdun. The list goes on…

I don't know the western Pyrenees but there'll be info in the Travel section. Are the Picos too far over for you ?
Towards the east the N260 is a good road but my particular favorites are the L511 (east from Isona) & C1311 (west from Tremp)

Ride safe & have fun :thumb

theyll try and usher you into the car park at mont st michel €€€€€€ - park at one of the biscuit shops within sight and walk up :D

No more parking up close at Le Mont Saint Michel. I was there last year with my cousin who had been years earlier on his old K-series. He was shocked at how far away we had to park this time and get a bus down to it. It's access for residents only now with barriers blocking the roads. Believe me we tried to get closer but no joy.

Thanks for the advice, things have obviously changed since I was there last. I'll only be camping nearby so won't be there for very long. Pity, was hoping for some GoPro footage of me driving through the gate and up a few narrow side streets, waving regally to the general approval of the locals ...
