Hi all,
My used GS TE Exclusive was delivered on Thursday last week, but it has had to go back to BMW on warranty already. Hadn't even ridden it and it started playing up.
The TFT screen couldn't be controlled using the menu button. I could tab sideways using the toggle wheel but not up or down. The second menus screen (My vehicle, navigation etc) would only flash for a brief moment and then disappear again.
The fault is intermittent which leads me to believe that whoever pressure washed it at the dealership has been a bit over zealous with the jet wash. It was worse on the sidestand and went away on main stand.
Spoke with the dealer, who immedately said all of the right things including an offer to reverse the whole deal and bring back my trade in.
I love the bike though so don't want to go backwards.
It has gone into Cotswold BMW (not the dealer I bought it from who are on the other side of the country) for investigation today.
Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks
Nick

I’ve not experienced this as I’ve not been able to ride until today but will be doing a more detailed inspection and test of everything today. Thanks for the heads up I will check that functionality.

Thats a real pain, I suppose it could fix itself if it is damp in the switch mech, do you have a garage and a fan heater you could direct onto the bars for a few hours?

Hi,
My bike does live in a garage. I strapped a dehumidifier pack around it until I could get it in for inspection.
It feels very much like a water ingress problem to me.
Problem is, that even if it dries out, the residue of water and detergent will cause problems in the long term.
Hopefully, bmw will take the switchgear off, check the seals, dry it out and squirt some lubricant in there.
Thanks
Nick

Let's hope it works out.

FWIW: Powerwashing with a foam-lance is the only means I use for washing my bike, and it never caused any problems, so don't let this keep you from washing the bike for the future. Just stay away from spraying the critical areas...(Bearings, seals and switches)

Best of luck with a great bike :D :okay

I had switchgear problem in my K1600, very shortly after buying it. Sometimes registering, sometimes not. Suggested they might need to give it a squirt of oil and a proper clean, but they replaced the whole lot. Problem never came back.

Hi all,
Thank you for the responses. I got it back this afternoon. Turns out it was due a software update, which is what they have attributed the fault to.
Hopefully that has cured it.
Cheers
Nick

Good to know you’ve got it back and sorted so quickly but at the risk of being s luddite it doesn’t bode well , for buyers of any brand, when bikes can go out and don’t work right away because of requiring a software update .

The trouble with all the tech on bikes now is that they've become as dependent on software as lots of other 'gadgets.' My Sena, Garmin, iPhone... every time I try to do anything with them I get the "new software must be installed" message.

Given the functionality of most tech, which we could only have dreamed about 15 years ago, it's a small-ish price to pay. When it all works.
