Has anyone managed to charge the Iphone from the F800GS?

I have a the cigarette lighter type charger plugged into the socket next to the ignition.

From this I can charge or power most 12v items, but for some reason the Iphone 3GS will not charge but will charge on the same charger in the car?

Is there a simple answer to this or a recommended charger for the Iphone that will work straight from the bike?

This is driving me mad.

I bought a Freeloader solar charger and it is not compatible with the latest IPhone software.

And before you all tell my to change my phone... I like the Iphone and want to keep hold of it.

Cheers in advance.

Freeloader and similar solar devices do not charge in sufficient time, good idea, but not in practice.

apart from the time issue, IME they don't produce enough umph for the iphone to detect you're attempting to charge, so it doesn't go into charge mode.
you can use one with a power monkey though. still takes ages.

Thanks guys, I have email Apple with no luck so far.
I am going to ask the same question to my Local dealer to see if they also have a solution?

Iphone Charging.

Good Evening

I have an Iphone 3GS mounted in an "Aqua-Box" on my F800 GS.
I also have Copilot Sat Nav Software installed and used regularly.

To keep my Iphone 3GS Charged I use a Car Charger brought from www.mobilefun.co.uk in the "Aqua-Box" and supply 12V via the "spare plug" under the tank cover to a car Cigarette adaptor.

I leave this permanently connected and never have any issues.

In case it makes a difference my F800 GS is an 09 Model.

Hope that helps,

Gareth.

Hi there

I wired an extra cigarette lighter socket directly to the battery via a 5 amp fuse which I have put under the rear seat hump with a long enough cable so that it can reach out or put lock away under the hump with the phone for security whilst your away.

I find this useful whilst camping or away as I can lock the phone whilst it is charging and I am doing other things.

Anyway just my take on it and if its of no use sorry.

Regards

Mark

Yes, the problem is probably that you've not got a powerful enough (or quality) USB charger. CrazyCaz got this Griffin thingy from Hellfrauds, quite expensive, but it's extremely tiny (it almost fits into the actual standard cigarette lighter socket). It's also got two USB outlets so you can charge GPS and iPhone. We had big problems getting her Garmin 1340 to charge from a cheapo charger.
You can get the GPS socket from BMW, then wire that to a standard cigarette lighter socket (from Maplin for example), then stick the USB charger in there, pull the wire from there to your iPhone. We've stuck it all under the faux-tank. If needed she can pull the cigarette lighter socket out from under there to power something else. It's all "weatherproofed" with tons of neatly laid gaffa tape.

that would appear to indicate an issue with the socket on the bike, not the charger.
i'd still try a different charger though, especially if you can borrow one.

no problem

I fitted an aux 12 hella socket direct (fused) to battery as i heard the dashboard one has "issues"
I bought a Hella/ciggy lighter adaptor from fuel station in Spain.
A ciggy lighter/usb tiny adaptor from a chinese £1 shop for E1.75
and with apple usb lead it all works a treat.

My (but not all do?) dashboard socket is permanently live and that works also.
Tried to post pics but restrictions apply??
