I used to use OneDrive but found it easier to just let Apple run my life and use The Cloud so I can take a photo on my phone and it seamlessly makes it available on my iPad and MacBook Air as soon as they’re connected to the Internet.
One Drive is good for MS products and we use it at work for back up ( one of many) and working remotely
As Andy says Apple products are best left to Apple systems and also as he says it just works seamlessly in the background.
I think my reasonably sized Icloud costs me £0.79 per month
OneDrive since works well if you have the OneDrive app on the phone. I back mine up to OneDrive for Business as there’s 5TB of storage there using the iOS app for OneDrive all you have to do is enable photo sync in the app, you can choose to sync to OneDrive or OneDrive for business

Thank you, Fluff.
That’s about where I am right now
OneDrive has neatly organised the image back-ups in folders, for me
With back-ups on OneDrive you can easily access the photos, etc., through MS rather than having to email them to yourself to use IYKWIM.
