I had been using my trust XDA Orbit MS Smartphone, which synced easily with Outlook and Exchange.
But it got broken, well smashed really. So I have a new iPhone 3G.

All of my contacts, mail, notes etc are on my Dell laptop, in PST files and Outlook.

I know the iPhone will sync with all the software on the Mac, and will sync with Outlook, but not Exchange.

So...
If I sync the iPhone with Outlook first, and THEN sync it on the Mac, will it then import all my contacts and historic mail from my PC via the iPhone into the Mac software ?

Anyone done this, know if it works ? Before I have a go, as I know where I am with Windows S/W, but not Mac stuff. Yet.

Any help very gratefully received.

cheers
Aaron

The iphone 3g syncs direct with your exchange server for email, contacts and appointments. Just need servername, username and password. Really easy to set up and works well.

thanks for that foolonastrom. I had read that you couldn't use Exchange, brilliant.

But what I'm really after is knowing if I can use the iPhone as a conduit for getting my mail / contacts from Outlook on the PC into the Mail & Contact programs on my iMac ?

As below:
Outlook -> Sync with iPhone -> Contacts etc now on iPhone -> sync iPhone with iMac -> Contacts etc now on iMac !

Will this work ?

Hmmm, not sure about that, I don't have a Mac, so all my contacts are synched direct with exchange.

I'm thinking it won't work, but don't quote me on it.

Think you would probably have to export from outlook, then import to the mac, unless you can get outlook on a mac?
