I want to connect music into my Autocom system but do I go for MP3 or an iPOD? Which is best and more likely to be futureproof? Do the iPODs have any problem with jitter over rough surfaces?
The new ipod nano should be a nice piece of kit, importantly it is now solid state - no tiny hard disk to worry about!
Incidently, the most robust piece MP3 piece of kit has to be an Ipod shuffle, dropped one out of my tank bag at 100mph and after going back searching for it, it still worked fine!!!
Snooty, If you intend on taking the MP3 player on tours then i would reckomend my SONY NWE99. I has a 1GB capacity and as runs on a single AAA. This gives you about 50 hours of music and is the same size as a matchbox. Price is the same as an IPOD mini.
It has its own software on the MP3 player so all you do is plug it into your PC and drag the MP3's straight onto it. 1GB = 250 tracks which is plenty.
I think the battery life for an ipod is about 8 hours.
It came out top in the test of MP3 players that PCPro did last year.
I have it clipped to my belt when riding.
It has a 40GB hard rive that has NEVER so much as stuttered when riding. It's also blessed with an FM/AM radio if you'd prefer Radio 4 when you're out.
The battery lasts around 16-18 hours, and it can be charged by the bike's battery as you ride along.
I think it'smore substantial than an iPod (I gave my iPod to one of my kids), it isn't white!
And with a 3.5mm stero jack lead it plugs right into my Autocom.
the archos i had with a laptop HD fitted worked perfectly and you could watch movies on it too...but i bought a tapwave Zodiac 2 and didn't want to keep both.
the tapwave uses SD cards 2 slots so you can use the cards from your camera if
there the same.unless you want your whole record collection on a player you don't need a big memory...i couldn't think of more than about 30-40 songs that i would want to realy listen to on the road...the tapwave could have a possible 4Gig of music on it...far to much if you ask me...512 is enough for me. the tapwave is a game console first but works brilliantly for playing movies and music on it. there are built in speakers for when you use it inside.
the large screen is good for looking at your pictures and movies if you put them on a SD card...and you can use any program thats Palm os5 in it too
no moving parts in it so nomatter how good a HD player is this is more stable.
the only down side is that it's not made any more... tapwave were not Sony or Microsoft and didn't have the money for advertising...but it gets great reviews from tech heads
you can get them on E-bay for sub £100... this for an item that cost £300 new
more about them HERE
a couple of ones on e-bay and the games on SDcards are about £3 each
