Just bought a new Imac - plugged in my old Ipod and it wants to 'sync' - thereby deleting all my old Showaddywaddy records :steptoe

Is there a way to sync without losing all the data?

Say no, then go into iTunes and tell it not to sync the music when the iPod is connected.

I know what the next question is...

Sync your iPhone to your old computer in iTunes.

Then, copy the iTunes Music folder (not the application) to the corresponding place on the new Mac.

Then sync on the new Mac.

Was your old computer a Mac? If so, why don't you copy everything over to the new one. Saves a load of hassle. Use Migration Assistant on the new Mac and follow the instructions. You'll need a cable between the two or it might take all night over the wifi.

iPod Sync ?

There's a program called CopyTrans which will back up your iPod to another drive. There may be others on the web, this is what I use.
You can then import your music back into iTunes on your new Mac.
In future if you select "manually manage music" in your iPod settings, the device won't wipe & reload when you connect to the computer.
Then you can just drag & drop new stuff to the iPod.
Up The Gunners !
