Copy your iTunes library from your old PC to your new one. (saving it in the correct file directory)

Then iTunes will recognise your iPod, your content will all be there and everything should be fine.

I've done this successfully several times Mac to Mac, PC to PC and PC to Mac.

you'll need a 3rd party app to get the files off your ipod then.

as i don't use windows, i'll let someone who does suggest one.

If the stuff you want is on your ipod - won't a 'whole device' sync with itunes on your new PC sort it? If not then I'm guessing you'll have to rip all the CDs into itunes on your new PC.

iTunes needs to be told. When The iPod is connected iTunes should recognize it and transfer all music.
Use preferences and options and check what is allowed.

Unless you bought all the music from iTunes, that is simply not the case.

JKW's post above is similarly incorrect.

If the music is only on the iPod you'll need a 3rd party program to extract the music files. Apple do not allow transfer from iPods to computers, you need to step outside their ecosystem.

If you bought the music via iTunes, you can re-download it to your iPod or computer.

Best thing would have been to get the files from your old laptop or backup drive.

As cookie says, you can't transfer music from your ipod to the computer unless you do some jiggery and pockery.

Here's a you tube "how to", picked randomly from hundreds - type in "transfer music from ipod to computer" and pick anyone you want.

Syncing your ipod with the computer will wipe your ipod clean. :D

Ok.I just got round to sorting the problem. I say I, but it was a mate. He watched the Youtube video and it all worked.

There are hidden files somewhere with the music not purchased from iTunes..

Thanks for the help folks! :beerjug:
