For those looking for a more integrated looking remote for the handlebars or faring, check this out from the apple site:
At £55 its a bit pricey but it has been made for external use on a bike and has a degree of weather-proofing and has been designed with the glove wearer in mind.
There is a wrist strap available - which if it was substituted with a couple of zip ties would make a very neat installation on the handlebars:
