Can any one give me any advise on Iran? visa's, carnets, etc
as I plan to do a 4 maybe 5 week tour of Turkey, Iran and some of the countries like hungary, romania, but it,s mainly Iran that I need info on. Iv'e sent an email to the Iranian embassy for details but any first hand up to date info would be helpful.

Iran!

Officially, need carnet and visa.

We got our visa in advance through Magic Carpet Travel. It's a bit of time consuming. You need to provide an itinerary in advance of the journey (though nothing makes you stick to it). Magic Carpet deal with some black hole in Iran who issue you with a number.

Then take the number to the Embassy to get the visa put in the passport. I think you can get it done via post, but as we are only 60 miles away, we prefered to get it ourselves. Cost us £70 each. They gave us a tourist visa valid for 3 weeks. It is very pretty and fills a whole page of your passport.

Carnet - usual stuff. Get through RAC (need to be member first). Contact paul.gowen@rac.co.uk
