Having just got a new Tour X, I have been thinking of replacing the visor with a tinted version.

I have used an Iridium lens on my Oakley goggles for ages, and its been really marked and scratched, far more than on other lens tints etc.

I am concerned that if I get an Iridium visor, the same thing will happen.

Does anybody have experiance of this?

I am looking at a genuine arai visor from the visor shop.

Cheers

Paul

Can`t say about Arai per se but I have iridium and mirrored visors on some of my helmets and both types can easily be damaged if you`re not careful.
Iridiums are the easiest to scratch .... they need to be cleaned with lots of water and just wiped with a finger rather than any type of cloth....even a spectacle cleaning cloth can erode the very thin coating.

I had an iridium visor on my Arai Quantum for over 3 years Paul with no problems at all. It had a few surface blemishes but nothing that would obscure your view nor attract your eye.

The secret to an iridium visor IMO is cleaning it regularly with warm water and a soft cloth or some damp kitchen roll. Worked for me anyway.

If you have any trouble getting hold of the Visor Shop give me a shout. They are only a few miles from here.

Yes, unless you're incredibly careful with it, the same thing will happen through time. I have a silver mirrored one for one of my Arais. I was incredibly careful with it but in the end it was wiping it with my V-Wipe, in a downpour, that marked it.

Mine wasn't quite as fragile as Tarka suggests. I used a microfibre cloth to clean it without any problems.

I've also got some silver mirrored lenses for my Scott goggles and they seem to be pretty robust. They're holding up well without any visible scratching.

gotta be black

I find that iridium visors last about a month and then all of a sudden - like Schtum says - a wipe of the visor starts to lift the coating. :(

But - I have a mirrored visor that is brilliant, cos the coating is on the inside. :thumb2

Iridiums are a bit of an indulgance to be honest - go for a black visor or mirrored.

Hi, have you ever thought of using Hyperoptics reactolite visor,

Got one on my Arai rx7, i could'nt get on with wearing sun glasses.

Darken in about 4 sec in sunlight and nice and clear for night use and its also anti-fog.

Defo the black one.Iridium's scratch far too easily.Black looks better on a tour-x all day long.:thumb2

Paul, I've got a black one if you want to put it on your lid to see how it looks. I'm also in Northampton.PM me if you want to try it.

Marcus.

IMHO, go for the black. It is the colour of the actual plastic rather than a coating which will scratch off. As others have said the mirror or iridium look cool but are very delicate and don't last long.

Black without the peak and sidepods fitted + the excellent Mr Humvees stickers.

Ditto to Bronco Billy black with Humvees stickers (but with white Tour X) -
never been keen on iridium visors since I saw a Fireblad with an iridium screen which had been left out in the hot sun and the clock surround had started to melt...! :augie
