hi,has anyone put these expensive alternatives in there bike, and seen a diffrence.just wondering if it is worth the extra cost over the standard plugs, also how many miles can you get out of them before you have to change them, cheers.:)

I didn't notice any difference. Next time I'll be putting 'standard' ones in. They're supposed to last 'longer' but I've no idea how you'd tell they're 'going off' :nenau

I think they're for people with deep pockets, myself. :blast

iridium

i have put iridium
things you will notice

first
at bmw service they give you a look like you have done something stupid

second
you will spend more for gas
you will see a difference in the consuption of gas, you burn more

will only see a difference in high comp engines, they last longer then
you wont burn any more gas, how do you work that out?,
standard plugs are fine on bm,s

With a fairly modern design engine with fuel injection and a decent ignition system the effects of Iridium plugs are negligable.
On an older air cooled engine with carbs and a rudimentary ignition system or early cdi system especially if the motor is tuned THERE IS a massive difference by fitting Iridium plugs. (from personal experience with a Wiseco big bore 1100 Katana). The bike starts better, ticks over better and pulls cleaner throughout the full rev range.

I had a Katana with an 1170 Wiseco big bore kit too (and full Yoshi titanium exhaust) - happy days. I used to keep careful fuel consumption figures, and there was a noticeable improvement in fuel economy after fitting Iridium plugs. More power? I don't know - the thing was already a beast. I fitted Iridiums to my 2005 1200GS and reckon there was absolutely no difference at all. So I'm in full agreement with Neil on this one...

Just stuck one in my Katoom 525 - it was a bit crap at starting - chucked one of these in - it fires up much better - as to whether its better than a new standard NGK, I doubt it :D

Fitted three to my Trumpet 955i after an original plug went down, britchers arse feeling was a smoother tick over & take off, the Triumph engine does run at high temps so thought it worth a punt, you pays your money................

plugs

you lot have convinced me,FEK IT dont bother.ill spend my hard urned on something else:beer::beerjug::augie

I did fit them, although I have not noticed any difference in running or economy. I did the service myself, so the extra cost of the plugs was small compared to the labour cost saved :thumb

the thing is people on whole think, that iridium plugs
1 burn hotter
2 less mpg
3 cost more
4 the old type r just as good

the facts
1 burn the same temp range
2 better mpg /cleaner burn = less gas
3 yep there do
4 the old type .well there r the old type ..

i run iridiums for 6 years on 999r ,999s 999bp.rsv,748,gsx1400 and many many more

when you fit the plugs it starts and runs better
thats my 10pence worth

the test is to fit iridiums ride then swop back ,i bet you put the iridiums back in :augie

Agree with Rudie, I've had them for years in several Ducatis and a couple Hondas. Much better pickup from a closed throttle with the Iridiums.

Once my BMs out of warranty and I'm servicing it myself I'll be using Iridium plugs.

Iridium spark plugs were recommended for my RD500 so I bought them and I did notice a difference in pick up. The bike had a noticeable "get up n go" feel to it. So I then bought some more for my Buell 1200 and noticed the same. I then put some in my RD350 but I'm having an unrelated problem at the moment with the fueling so time will tell but I did ride it for about 15 miles and again the pick up was better. I am now considering buying some for my GSA. I am slightly put off by those who say it's made no difference but I think it has alot to do with how you ride your bike. I push my bikes hard and always to the limit of acceleration, not necessarily top end. So because I accelerate hard I notice the difference when using super unleaded 99ron. My dad on the other hand rides like a sunday driver with no hard acceleration whatsoever, so when I persuaded him to put in super unleaded 99rom fuel, he did not notice a difference and to him any small performance enhancement is "all in my head".

I think I will take a chance on iridium spark plugs based on the experienced of 3 of my bikes thus far! What you have to bear in mind is that you have to "tune in" to the difference! It's like audio cables for hi fi, not a massive difference but something you can notice if you "tune in", and once you "tune in" that's all you will notice for a while is the improvement! I am absolutely convinced my iridium spark plugs have made an improvement on my bikes, so I can't see why the GS should be any different?

i'm with your dad :augie

:D Don't make me laugh!!! :D

I think you have to see the small differences for yourself. If you don't notice the difference then stop spending!

I have a friend who owns the same Buell as myself. we have done difference things to our Buells to improve performance. we swopped bikes recently for a short ride. His bike was REALLY slow and he said mine was REALLY quick off the mark! The was before the iridium plugs were fitted :aidan
