Is all hope lost?

Trying to find an e-mail that was set about 3 months ago. Now dumbo me printed it off but can't find it.
So i did not save it on the p.c. I have done everything possible to retrieve it , Old mail, recently deleted mail, manage mail, search mail etc etc.

Is there any way of retrieving it? I spoke to a AOL rep who said No its to far gone ......Is he right Wizzkids

I am on XP and Aol 9 if that helps?

If AOl don't have the mail and you never saved it yourself then the only possibility is that it (or most probably fragments of it) are recoverable from the unallocated clusters on the drive. The chance of getting the mail back depends on many factors - how big is your hard drive?, how much has been written to the drive in the last 3 months ? (lots of Internet use will not have helped), how long was the mail ?

Thanks clive but i have managed to sort it out with the company i was dealing with as they could not find it on their system but have rang me this morning saying they have found it.

Mind you it would be interesting to find out how you do it just incase for the future .

I know it's so tempting when dealing with stuff by e-mail to press the tit, and forget about it - until you need to check what was said. There is then an anxious heart thumping wait, while you check your directories, to see if you've still got a copy. If you're lucky - you have.

I find that the best thing to do with even apparently unimportant e-mails, is to send a copy to yourself. You tend to read these at your convenience, and when you have more time, so you can print off a paper copy is needed. I know that this has got me out of the cack at least 3 times in the last month. If it turns out to be unimportant - just delete it.

Google's new desktop search tool ( http://desktop.google.com ) will allow you to search all your emails past and present - including deleted ones. It doesn't support AOL mail (Outlook & Outlook Express only) but it does record all AOL Instant Messenger conversations buplus all the web pages you visit. Personally, from a privacy point of view, it scares the crap out of me, but others may not be so sensitive and may actually find it useful.
