Is CTS an issue with the 1200GS?

Hi all,
As I have yet to take a 12 out for a test ride, could you tell me if the bike is vibey. My XT660X was quite vibey and it used to occasionally give me the CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) symptoms in my left hand.
For those of you who don't know what CTS is: it is when your thumb and sometimes fingers feel numb or tingly (pins and needles), normally as a result of doing something like knitting (never tried it), production work or riding a bike that vibrates a fair bit.
From my research it seems the 1150GS was quite vibey and they have since fitted a rocker (or something) into the 1200GS motor to make it vibrate less.
Do any of you CTS sufferers have a problem with the 1200GS?
Thanx

On carpal tunnel syndrome

R1 Nightmare
R6 not too bad

Fireblade better than R6 not as bad as R1

RSV-R only a problem when lots of time at slow speed

R1200GS never been an issue, ever. Very light clutch, no weight on the wrists.

Enjoy !

I've had both my wrists operated on for CTS and it wasn't vibration that was the main issue for me but bikes with sporty riding positions which allowed a lot of body weight to be transferred to the wrists. This put a lot of pressue on the carpal tunnel over a number of years resulting in the need for both to be done. It was far more apparant, prior to the operations, riding my Triumph Sprint ST than it was riding my 1150GS.

Numb bits

Hi...

IMO... its very much a personal thing...

I don't suffer... but my bro does.. when he ride my 12!... that's the only thing that prevented him from indulging.. and parting wi his cash!?!

Take a test drive... then you'll kno 4 sure! :thumb2

Had both my wrists done, no more problems with cts for me:bounce1

I did after the ops use one of these to help with the recovery, still use it now. There are suggestions that they may help to sort out the cts without surgery - link

I didn't have the 12 when i had the cts but mine tended to be set off by the higher frequency vibes that i had on my GSXR.

I have CTS and it got worse with the GS. Not sure if that's the GS's fault though as I have done a higher mileage with this bike than others.

For me, doing the BWM offroad course last year (and the ride down and back from Scotland) was the final nail in the coffin. Both hands were terrible afterwards - when riding the bike and even at night in bed.

I got the right hand (by far the worst) operated on in December but it is still not up to speed. (I think I'll have to get one of those Powerballs - thanks for the tip st247.) The left hand will probably have to be done this winter! :( Otherwise no more offroading or mountain biking, cycling etc....

If you have CTS and it gets bad then see the Docs and consider surgery. Or give up doing all but the odd weekend's biking.

i don't have cts but

smashed my right wrist to pieces 3 years ago. only have about 45% movement but it's fine on the 12gsa. vibes arn't an issue although the cold and damp causes me a bit of grief:o

rotating the bars forward in the clamps, i know of a few enduro riders who found this a great help. relaxing is also of benefit as gripping on hard causes this to be worse:thumb2

I have seen some people recommending foam grips (rather than the rubber ones on most bikes), not holding on too tight, bigger bar end weights and there are some companies that make anti-vibe handle bars but not sure if they make any for the GS?
I have noticed it more with my summer gloves, winter gloves must have absorbed more vibes.

Compared to a Deauville (my current bike) the GS is smoothness epitomised. There's almost no weight on the wrists, although I did find the clutch slightly more 'work' than the deauville, although this could be 'cos the bike was a demo one and wasn't 'tweaked for me...

I liked it so much I bought it on the spot
