Is everyone fed up with threads about the Nav 6?

I'm aware that there are multiple threads on the subject of the Nav 6 and its various 'foibles', notably the ghosting issue, which I also experienced and got the unit replaced by Garmin. I received the replacement In June 2024 (the original was well out of warranty) and initially all seemed fine.
However, on a recent tour in northern Spain I got caught in a rainstorm and the Nav 6 just went mental...it was totally uncontrollable, switching screens whenever a rain drop hit the screen or if rainwater ran down the screen.

I've been in contact with Garmin but, despite the fact the unit was sent to me in June this year, they are not interested. Responses from customer services include:

"I do apologise however with recent issues with the touchscreen activating without doing anything, the screen design was changed to a capacitive design which is more sensitive especially with water, I do apologise however the current update is that this is by design and simply a limitation of the device, there is nothing we can do to change this.

Thank you!"

"I do apologise however the issues you are experiencing are determined to be a limitation of the type of display being used, you are not the only person experiencing this however this is expected based on the screen technology used.

There is nothing more we can do here."

Perhaps, in order to improve customer experience of Garmin and the Nav VI, warnings should be issued to all those customers likely to attempt to use the product in an environment where it might rain?

I was considering getting an XT2, but based on my experience with the Nav VI, I have pretty much lost confidence in Garmin and so will look elsewhere, maybe on of the increasing number of relatively cheap Chinese products or the BMW Connected Ride Navigator.

Cant comment on the Nav6 but have always had great customer service from Garmin across various cycle computers as well as a Zumo XT which I got replaced last week.
Now got a Zumo XT2 and know if there’s ever any issues then I know they will sort it.

I concur re good service from Garmin. I had two "old-tech" Nav6s and eventually ended up with the "new-tech" capacitive screen version (whatever that is).

It's been faultless - including over several thousand miles in the pissing rain.

I still tale my Nav5 when I absolutely need the GPS to work though :D

I have a Garmin XT with a capacitive screen on my Africa Twin AS. its tucked behand the screen though and I haven't had any issues (YET!) in heavy rain.
The Garmin XT2 has a screen lock for wet weather.

Locking and Unlocking the Touchscreen

You can lock the touchscreen to prevent unwanted interaction during your ride. This can be useful during rain and other environmental situations that may affect the touchscreen.

  • To lock the touchscreen, hold the power button until a prompt appears on the screen, and select Lock Screen.
  • The prompt appears after five seconds. If you release the power button before the prompt appears, the device enters power saving mode.
To unlock the touchscreen, press the power button.
