Is Gore-tex waterproof?

All my road bike gear is gore-tex and i wouldn't buy any thing else it's worth every penny.

Even my offorading waterproofs are gore-tex and at £29 a pair you can't say they are expensive or over priced but the fact is you get what you pay for.

My offroading waterproof jacket is shite AND iS the 3rd one that pissed water through UNDER WARRANTY but then itS cheap and it's a "BUFFALO".

Stolzy, I appreciate you seem to be on a one man mission to show that Gortex isn't suitable for motorcycle clothing.

Rather than going into the technical ins and outs of how the material works I would be interested to know what you own personal experience of Gortex v other ways of keeping both sweat free and dry is.

I guess that answers that then......................

Never trusted it since and started wearing Paramo gear which is still going strong.

Paramo is the best walking/outdoor gear that I've ever used....I also use a Vista jacket when riding the push bike.

Wash and reproof (dead easy) every couple of years....;)

No wonder the Spanish economy is fucked.
Should any one wish to put forth a counter arguement as to what constitutes waterproof then I am all ears.

PS Is Rukka letting it's standards slip.

Stan.

They reside in Spain, so they dont get the rain like we do, so to them a moderate shower whilst you're wearing them keeping your hands dry is probably "waterproof".

At the end of the day, "Guaranteed to Keep you Dry" is their statement.... So....

Hi to you all.
Now to me "is Gore-tex waterproof" sounds like a dumb question. According to Motard-inn who sold me the gloves then the answer is no.
So I paid £141 for a pair of Rukka Argosaurus Gore-tex gloves. They eventually arrived from Spain, so after reading the Gore-tex guaranteed to keep you dry label and seeing a picture on the said label with the gloves immersed in a tank of water I thought I would try the same experiment. Guess what? both hands plunge into the ice cold water and within a minute or so the right hand glove is leaking like a seive. The left is good so waterproof can be done. In my dissapointment I fire off an email to Motard-inn expecting apologies and easy return for a good pair.Uh Uh, not the case. They emailed today saying
''Thank you for order with us.

The gloves are Goretex not Waterproof, therefore you cant put them in a
sink full of water and expect them to resist water when they are not
designed for that. Futhermore , you have used them in an inapropiate way
so we cannot accept your return.

If you require further assistance dont hesitate to contact us.''

Kind regards,

Well I burst out laughing at that. £141 for a pair of gloves that leak in water even though they are guaranteed to keep you dry. I will of course take this up with Gore-tex but wanted to warn anyone using Motard-inn as this is the level of service you get. No wonder the Spanish economy is fucked.

I have a pair of exactly the same gloves.

they stood up to the most torrential rain I have ever ridden in ( and I ain't no pussy - I mean rain so hard it was a 30mph max along the B500 in Germany).

No issues at all - hands completely dry.

Something wrong with your gloves

Gore-tex gloves

Well I thought I would bring you the latest regarding these gloves and the retailer. (Motardinn)
Received an email today from them requesting that I should return them, so a result of sorts there. Given that I had tried to phone them on three or four occasions without managing to actually speak to anyone, I thought I would try again this afternoon. Well someone did pick up and after I spent the next half hour letting them know how I felt about their company I did feel better. They of course apologised and admitted that of course Gor-tex is waterproof and once again they were really sorry. Anyway, at this point I have lost all faith in Rukka and will be receiving a full refund( maybe a little unfair on my behalf), but I expect a high end product to excel. These same gloves are on sale here in the UK for £230 so quality control is not up to scratch in my books. I of course still need some gloves, any suggestions would be gratefully received.
All the best

Stash.

I can definitely recommend a pair of Apollo gloves from a company called Rukka! :hide been using them for years and they are absolutely waterproof!:thumb

army dpm goretex....excellent, although as you do simply disappear when you wear this, watch out on tarmac as traffic will not see you:D

ps its for sale too!:thumb

Lucky it is the left hand, you can keep it in your pocket when on long runs up and down motorways...

My Hein Gericke Goretex gloves leak pretty quickly probably after 30 minutes, I never sent them back though

Just did the fill them with water idea. One leaks the other does not, always been like that, could I or should I try and get them changed? that is after three years of ownership, but as I said always leaked.

Gore warranty (ten years)
