My little Dak showed me it's oil light last night. Checked the level and it was fine but the oil was a bit thin.

Done a filter and oil change tonight and the light comes on still. It's intermittent but a bit of a worry. If I rev it a bit it goes away which would suggest the oil is low, but it has had 2.5 ltrs :nenau and looks full in the sight glass.

Any idea peeps. Hope she's not broke as I love that bike :tears:tears:tears

If the light goes out with extra revs it could be the pump's not supplying the required pressure, or the pressure switch is on its way out. Have you jet washed the bike recently?

Girlfriend Sue's (Gracy on here) 650 Dakar's light came on this morning... oil in the tank, can see it being returned, so oil going round OK.

My Dakar did it some time ago...

Don't lose any sleep Flip... it'll be the oil light switch gone awol

:beerjug:

Change the oil pressure swtch and try it again. It's quite a well known faut on the 650.

Change the switch. Easy to do, cheap enough to buy as they are fitted to loads of cars and failure is quite common.

Cheers guys, that makes me feel better, especially Micky who did a billion zillion miles on his :thumb

Take the filler off the oil tank. Have a look inside.
With the bike running on tick over the oil return should be greater than feed and tank will appear to fill (even above the sight glass!), rev the engine and the oil level should fall dramitically then settle down. If it's doing this then everything OK.
Oil level notorious to get right, as oil tends to remain at level depending on revs when engined turned off.
I've had an oil pressure switch failure, so yes, it's a known weak point.

Cheers Spout. Does exactly what you say, sometimes totally fills the oil sight glass :nenau

Like I said, it's had 2.5 litres and has been running fine.

Yeah, the thing with these beasties is to know that you've drained all the oil out and you put the correct amount back in. If you try and do it by the sight glass you'll be piddling around for ages and will probably have to drain some off later.
DAMHIK :blast
