Is it just me?

Or is there a knack / art to fitting the rider seat on the GS?

I'll bare my backside in Harrods window the day I get it back on first time!!

Can be a bit fiddly especially if you have too much in the underseat storage area where the tool kit goes.

Empty that and give yer arse a good scrubbing just in case. :D

seat fitting

When I bought my bike, the left hand lug on the front bracket was loose and fitting the seat was almost impossible without great care. Pushing the seat forwards to engage the bar also pushed the lug over the recess. Glueing it into an open position has helped. Check that this is not happening on your bike too. :beerjug:

I ended up having to round file away some of the plastic from the frame fitting as mine was a right b****r to fit. Clicks in every time now :thumb

If your legs are long enough it is far easier to fit the riders seat with it on the higher of the 2 settings. It is less likely to foul the tool kit etc then :thumb

Popped into Rainbow to pick up some bits today, got the nice salesman to show me the knack. Seems it's the area above the battery that needs to be kept clear, Autocom and Optimate leads donty help there!!

Anyway, anyone know what time Harrods opens?

just make sure you do fit the seat properly before planting yer backside on it! :nono
i didnt check mine and the front hadnt engaged properly and it scratched both the silver tank side panels where the darned seat rubbed em

how much

Glad to see I am not the only one who has found this simple task not quite so simple. Bit like pleasing her !!!!!

Re-fitting the seat

I have been trying for over two years to learn the drill....so far without success. I usually fix it about the fourth or fifth try; Now at least I will have a go at polishing all the plastic edges. It is for this reason that I have never fitted the U lock in its 'correct' place under the saddle.

It's heartening to know I'm not the only "fingers n thumbs" owner then!!

I will add though, once shown, and the area above the battery is kept clear it does seem a lot easier to click into place.

Quote of the week for me: "It's not designed to be taken on and off a lot" Salesman talking about the GS seat this week!!

I found that I began being obsessed by trying to make sure the front end of the seat went forward - as the tabs point forward and lock into the back of the tank. Endless frustration.

Now I concentrate on getting the front seat down - hand on top of the middle of the curve where the seat starts to rise, push down firmly, then push the back of the seat down. Goes on first time (almost) every time.

(Unless there's someone watching of course).

Seat on and off

This is a lot of nonsense because the storage space for the U-lock is UNDER the seat. I don't know how your insurance works in the UK but her, unless I use the U-lock whenever parked the bike is not insured against theft - so in theory the seat could come off and on quite a few times daily.
