is it midlife or what

From what I`ve read....and heard from Harley owning mates...an 883 converted to a 1200 is a far better riding machine than a stock 1200 and there`s actually a cash saving after the mods have been done (allegedly).

The 883's converted to 1200s never seemed to go as well as the standard 1200. When I had my 1200 there were several other parts that were different as well. The later rubber mounted sportsters are really nice machines and are physically bigger than the solid mounted machines.

I really enjoyed mine and rode it as my only means of transport putting 16k on it in the first year. this was in 1989 so I may be looking back through rose tinted specs. It got off roaded, put down the drag strip and put in some serious long distance rides all without problems. The only issue I had was the paint peeling off the frame but this was covered under the warranty and my frame was powder coated. I got a best standing quarter of 13.2 in standard trim if thats any use.

Assuming you're buying this from a Harley dealer I'd get the 883 then get them to fit a 1200 kit as part of the deal :D

The 1200 Sportster with all the 'Live to Ride, Ride to Work' shite on it is so chromosexual :ymca

If you get the sportster you will only wonder why you didn't get a big twin in the first place, the bigger Harleys are more fun and have bags more character

(i,ve had two sportsters, an '90 FLSTF and a late 70's shovel)

I've a hankering now for a genuine 57 Pan, a bike to stay with me till the end:thumb2

I've just been offered a 92 EVO Electra Glide which I'm very tempted with if I can get the price right:eek:

popped in this morning, a dealer has offered the asking price for both bikes  so if i want one i have to buy both as they have been underwritten to the dealer as a pair, will not split :eek:

Perhaps I'm not really understanding what you have said, but if the dealer is playing hard ball walk away, your not in love with either bike, so wait untill you find a bike you really like then the decision will be easy:thumb2

Walk away

I'd be telling the dealer to **** off ............... walk away, there are loads of Harleys out there for sale :rob

The dealer is being very narrow minded in my eyes. Losing a local customer over another trader.

I've never heard of a trader/dealer paying full retail for a trade sale unless they are heading abroad what with the Euro etc.

Give it a month and you'll be knee deep in Sportsters

Very true, i am going to be patient, as you say another month and loads of bikes. I am very impulsive and that was very nearly a done deal

Enjoy the Harley Big Den, I ride a Softail Springer, keep switching between it and the BMW, both are great bikes
