....or are used 1200 GSA's making more money than their list prices new? Been looking around at the official network and (even allowing for extra's), bikes appear to be a lot more expensive second-hand than new!

Is there a problem with long waiting lists fom the factory?

Marc

Last weeks MCN reckoned that the GS is the slowest depreciating bike there is.Prices are going up and it seems to some you only loose the VAT in the first year? 08 GSA's are going for £10495 if specced right ,and there is a shortage. March/April is when most people start riding again and if getting a new bike dont want to wait for delivery.Wait till October and people who want to offload a bike cant give it away. Its supply +Demand:D

I specced up a new 1200 GSA using the BMW official thingy and with the options I wanted (ESA, ABS, heated grips and OBC) the bike was coming out at around 11,883 inc VAT and OTR charges.....well, you'd never believe it when you look at the on-line BMW dealer search with plenty of used GSA's coming in at 12,500+.....I didn't include luggage, but then most of the ones you see on the dealer search don't come with the luggage either!!

How many more options are people having that make the bike worth that much more, taking into account depreciation?!! Unless there was a hideous waiting list, surely you'd be mad to buy a used one?!!

Consider yourselves lucky in the UK. Currently, a new GSA, fully specced, is 21,968 Euros here in Turkey. That'll be approx 20,600 pound coins to you lot. Just to make a point, average income here is a third of that of the UK, at most.

I'd say from your observations it's obvious, buy new, end of! But then I suppose you do have to face the tedium of running it in, or you could spend the money saved paying someone else to do it. Oh I don't know decisions decisions.... Why is life so difficult?

depreciation

They may be a low percentage depreciating bike but certainly not the lowest in terms of hard cash. You always lose most buying new, fact! Drive it out the door and theres a grand gone.

A GS is certainly a good investment tho :thumb
