Is it polite to ask if you can watch mechanic work?

i am a motorcycle mechanic . i don't mind people watching. BUT they manage to stand just where i want to be , they get between me and my tools , they don't make enough tea, they don't smoke the right fags, they don't like to see me hitting their bike with a hammer , they get in the way, they talk bollocks, they don't let me touch up their bird, they distract you to the point where you are checking things 2/3 times ,and sometimes leaving things undone , they want to keep cleaning bits of their bike , they keep asking dumb questions , AND THEY SLOW ME DOWN , did i say they keep getting in the way ? cos the do .

and yes, i do have a reputation for being rude to customers. my tolerance threshold for other humans very low .

no. i don't work on bmw's ( except mine and my friends)

a poor mechanic, will not let you watch, even from a distance.

when i worked on the tools my boss used to have an open workshop rule , people could see you working on their bikes , but they were told drink tea/coffee bring biscuits and dont touch the tool , i used to like fitting tyres in front of them , funny to see them jump when the tyre pops on to the rim with bang lol we got on great with 99.9% of the people that used to come in and that used to show by the amount of bottles of drink we got at xmas off them
