On the road, for now:-)
Hi folks.........

I wonder if anyone has any ideas what's up with my 98 1100. She has recently developed this odd, almost cutting out, type of senario. I start her up, get down the road quarter of a mile, wait at the traffc lights, now as she sits ticking over, she suddenly misses sounds like its going to cut out or something, then just seems to carry on as usual. Only does it when its cold, never used to do it, there was like a slight clanking noise the other day when she did it, it knocked like three times, then carried on as normal....very odd. She has done 70k now but I am hoping theres at least another 100k left in her yet at the very least. If anyone has heard or experienced this before I would be most gratefull of any advice you can give me. I did wonder if there might be some sort of crankcase sensor somewhere that is breaking down.

Any ideas most welcome.......:surrender

I'd be looking at throttle body sync and TPS adjustment. Then before panicking I'd look at air filter and spark plugs (I like NGK Iridium) and start it cold it in the dark to see if your HT leads are breaking down (look for sparks on the outside of the leads).

At 70k it's just about run in!:thumb2

My old 1150 was at 85k when I sold it and was a better engine than the 8k bike I sold it for, these things need a little mileage to run right IMHO..

BTW, my 1150 conks out when cold, probably need to set the free play in the throttle cables and choke....

Hall sensors possibly first thing to check is the wires from the ignition you might have a broken wire that is causing intermittent contact there will be a obvious kink in the harness between the multiplug and the ignition barrel strip the outer sheath and check the four wires easy to find pull the tank a couple of inches to the rear it is the bright orange plug clean the contacts on that as well, replacements from motoworks or motobins

Not the same bike but my DRZ (3 years old) has always done this. Thank god for electric starters is all I can say.

I don't think it's anything too serious. It sounds to me like the engine occasionally "misses" on one pot. This can cause a bit of a clank. My 850GS used to do it when it needed a tune-up. Coincidentally, my 1100RS has just started to miss occasionally. I know that the tickover needs adjusting on this, but I intend fitting a new throttle cable, so haven't bothered doing it.

Try a throttle synch.

Splendid

Fellow riders,
